Future proyect.

And of course, there is always Satan appearing as a serpent in the Garden.

That's the first woman, actually, Lilith, not satan.

Actually, no. Lilith didn't even become the "first woman" until the 8th or 10th century AD. The closest thing that existed to her before then was an Babylonian daemonette called "lilitu", or something like that. In the oldest authenticated copies of the Bible, like the Hebrew Pentatuech, Greek Septuigent and Vulgate Latin, it was always Satan.

Beings like Lilith are a part of what is called "apocrypha". The word itself means "non-canon; obscure; dubious". It is used to describe a series of books that were once believed to be a part of the Bible but were either proven to have not been written by said author, or did not exist in the older Hebrew texts. Lilith is aporcyphral, not biblical.

Trust me, I'm a preacher's kid. biggrin.png

She's mentioned in the Midrashim, though, which predate jesus.

Running with Kol's idea, look up Naginata and Nagamaki. First is a spear with a sword at tge end, the second is a sword with a hilt equal to the blade in length. These are Japanese weapons, but there is no reason you can't be inspired by them and model a more Western weapon with those features.

A Naginata is pretty much identical to a guan dao (chinese) or a glaive (european).

A Nagamaki is similar to one but with a shorter haft.

Although technically, there's a difference in crafting methods between the blades of the two.

Im still going to need some more input on the other 16 legions. Both Angels have already been decided. I will begin this proyect (at least the first 2: BA and DA) as soon as I finish my Ultramarine Cataphractii. It will be a nice side proyect to drag out time while waiting for the Horus Heresy books featuring the XIIIth.

For the bases I have come up with this: Red dessert, kind of Baal themed for the BA and tiled floor for the DA to show more of their monastic nature.

IIRC, the Midrash are stories made by Rabbis to actually help explain certain passages in the Jewish Tanakh. And as Cormac pointed out, the word lilitu can be found in various places all over the Middle East. Babylon, it is a daemonette. In Akkadian mythology, its a serpent.

The Midrashim were also written by Jews sometime after their return to Babylon. They had a lot of exposure to that culture as a result. So, words like "lilitu", can used to describe animals(like it was in Isaiah Chapter 34 when it listed serpents), or be used to describe the serpent in Genesis in later rewritings of the Old Testament. But it wasn't "lilith"(as in a specific entity) until the 8th to 10th century. Although since then, whoever translates the Tanakh into English has decided that it shouldn't be "lilith"(serpent) but "Lilith"(non-Biblical first wife of Adam who didn't exist until long after Jesus).

Now, back to the discussion on hand. The Nagamaki is more close to what I was imagining in my head. Although since Anaziel has decided on a sword, a straight up, stylised longsword should probably fit in.

Kol: long sword, thats a good idea. If I can manage to make/find a bastard type sword it will definetly be a go.

Warspirit: Im not sure, maybe just regular power claws. Or if possible, a powerfist with the finger tips converted into a type of claw, that would give a butchers look.

And about the DA: Do you know of any space marine kits that might have straight standing legs? Or of any good way to turn a pair of regular legs into straights? Im not worried about cutting up some legs since they will be covered in robes anyways.

3 of the 4 figures from the original Masters of the Chapter box are standing up straight:

Hmmm my main problem with these guys is the amount of bling on them, Id rather have something simple to work GS over. But the picture of the standard bearer gave me an idea. One of the MK IV legion legs is standing relatively straight, I might just use that with a bit of cutting and GS to set it right.

And sorry about that Cormac, I had not realised it.

EDIT:

Yeap, these legs should do great for the DA:

And this sword for the BA:

Okay, so BA and DA have been delt with. Now Ive been pondering about Night Lords and Iron Warriors:

Night Lords: I will give him the "striking terror from the shadows" and "spychotic murderer" theme, so he will be based on sort of a darkened ruined street, perhabs jumping from the shadows as was suggested. Im thinking a skull helmet with bat wings would add a good touch of terror, as would skull trophies, death iconography and spikes (What do you think Kol, spikes yes or no?). He will be wearing MK II armour and be armed with a pair of lightning claws, which will be either the regular lightning claws or some sort of mastercrafted kind with the figer tips turned into claws. Maybe a cloack.

Iron Warriors: The whole trench and siege warfare theme here, the base designed to look like WWI trench warfare, so amounts a ammo, weapons and mud. His armour will be simple MK III because simplicity looks good on IW, with battle damage. Im thinking of arming him with a heavy bolter and, if my conversion skill can manage it, make one of his arms point towards the horizon (as if hes giving orders). Im thinking adding a chainmail tabard will look really good here.

Suggestions welcome.
