Firepower
OK, so the Thunderfire Cannon model is 1) expensive, 2) notoriously uncooperative and 3) finecast, so I'm pretty much entirely against making the standard one. The new Stalker weapons platform is ripe for making not just one, but two Thunderfire Counts As, but I'm at a loss for what to stick them on. How would you go about building a platform, or rather what bitz would you combine to make it? Lil treads? Stabilizing legs? The treads are probably the most perplexing. Tonal
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the treads were the defining feature of the Thunderfire? It's being mobile and all-terrain and what have you? MehpistonVsTheWorld
Well, in my opinion, some sturdy legs would look awesome! You could also possibly incorporate a side gunner like one of those WW2 era Anti aircraft weapons. Just my two cents. Artemid
What about just using a Rapier battery and possibly fitting a different gun? http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/The_Horus_Heresy/Legiones_Astartes/Space_Marine_Legion_Army_List/LEGION_ELITES/Legion_Rapier_Weapons_Battery?filter_reset=1 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280339-thunderfire-counts-as/#findComment-3463595 Share on other sites
Chronotonic
heck I have one of them and they are about the same size as a thunderfire cannon... I say use it as one... Firepower
I've seen those Forgeworld platforms before. Too expensive, among other things. The beauty of the Stalker cannons is that there are two in one kit. The question really revolves around what to mount those guns on, specifically if there are any plastic kits/bits from the GW range that will work easily enough (ideally treads). I think I saw someone use Sentinel legs once. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280339-thunderfire-counts-as/#findComment-3463645 Share on other sites
T14
Metal TF cannons can regularly be had on ebay.Or Scratch build them:2xThunderfire lookalike barrels cost $7 from Blood and Skulls industry on ebay.Pic up a few plastic EPIC tanks and combine everything with plasticcard. Getting two platforms done as well as two techmarines isn't cheap either - especially factoring in the Stalker weapons. Though I'll agree the TFC is oddly expensive, and indeed a bit of a pain to build. Major_Gilbear
Could you kitbash this into something more fitting for your Marine force? Seeing how both that and the Thunderfire are both based of the old Thudd Gun idea, it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to get something good-looking. Plus, 90% of the kit is there, and it's reasonably cheap (especially if you buy from somewhere like the Warstore) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280339-thunderfire-counts-as/#findComment-3463862 Share on other sites
Naminé
I've seen someone use Epic-scale Landraiders as treads before, maybe that could work? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280339-thunderfire-counts-as/#findComment-3463864 Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
I've seen someone use Epic-scale Landraiders as treads before, maybe that could work? Way too small - I have both Epic Landraiders (all marks) and the modern 40k Thunderfire, and they are totally different sizes. Major_Gilbear
How about using, say, four Epic Landraiders? One at each corner. Like tracked castors? Yeah, that could work. I think that another issue to be wary of is that with some epic models (like Landraiders for example), the silhouette of the model is very distinctive, and distracts from the conversion. Kaedes Nex
Since each Stalker turret only has three barrels, you should model your Techmarine with his arm cocked back ready to hurl the fourth shell. Firepower
Quite sexy. Still rather pricey, but nowhere near as bad as the Rapiers. Hmm... Edit- Actually I was wrong. I was looking at the Crew, not the gun. The gun is still prohibitively expensive. Mostly because of shipping and handling, really. Firepower
Really, if I could just find a decent, cheap set of properly sized tank treads to serve as a platform, the rest would be easy. But if I can't then yeah, I'll just be hounding ebay A clever way to make lil robot/platform legs would work well enough, too.
