Venemox
I was looking over the Techmarine profile, and noticed it gave him the option to trade bolt pistol and/or boltgun for a power axe; AND gave him access the Melee Weapons list. I questioned this at first, then noticed that the only Melee weapon he could trade in to get to the Melee weapon list items was his servo-arm (or bolt pistol, but that precludes 2 attacks with power sword, maul or lance), Am I missing something, or does this look like how it's written to everyone else? I'm really not in the mood to remodel my power claymore wielding Storm Warden Deathwatch Techmarine. Spinsanity
Not sure where the problem is... If you trade your BP for, say, a Power Maul, you still have the Servo-arm as a second ccw... Or you can trade your Bolter for a PAxe and then trade it again (although that's a very costly PSword/Maul/Lance) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280447-arming-a-techmarine/#findComment-3465904 Share on other sites
Venemox
The Servo Arm is now a Sx2 AP1 Specialist, Unwieldy, Melee weapon. So, you can't use it AND the Power Maul/Lance/Sword in the same turn. Buying the Power Axe gives you the ability to use your Bolt Pistol to gain 1 extra attack in close combat (still at Initiative 1, and AP2 instead). The problem lies in finding that bonus attack, at normal I, with a power weapon. That option has apparently evaporated. Spinsanity
Alright, you seemed to have missed my intent. The Servo Arm is not an extra attack, it's just an extra weapon. The BP or Axe won't give you +1A when using the ServoArm (since it's a specialist weapon), but the SA CAN give you +1A when using it as a second weapon if you fight with the Axe... Axe + SA = +1 attack for a second weapon (axe is not a specialist weapon) SA + Axe = +0 attack (SA is a specialist weapon, and since the Axe is not it doesn't give a +1). Makes any sense? + Edit : Same is true if you switch your BP for a Power Swod/Maul/Spear... You get +1 A because of the extra weapon (the ServoArm). You do not get +1A for fighting with a Melee weapon and a Specialist weapon. You can only claim the +1A if both weapons are Specialist, or neither weapon is Specialist. You can only claim the +1A if both weapons are Specialist, or neither weapon is Specialist. Hmm, looks like I've misplayed this before... Just re-read the Specialist / Two-weapons rules and it seems you're right :\ "If a model has more than one Melee weapon he much choose which one to attack with..." whereas "A model fighting with this weapon [...] unless both weapons have the Specialist Weapon rule." (I hadn't realised SW applied no mather which weapon you're fighting with) Thankfully, I doubt I've cheated regarding this (since I don't have any model equiped in such a way that I could have). Sorry for this mistake, that was awkward Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280447-arming-a-techmarine/#findComment-3466135 Share on other sites
bjoluemblem
I think when it comes to the techmarine, you either want him to be a mini-captain, with a S8 I1 swing and a S4(or S6) I4 swing. His close combat tech isn't nearly as good as his support tech though. With a servo harness, he becomes much deadlier, and if you take an auspex, he becomes an excellent support character for shooty builds. 4+ cover -> 5+ cover can be a pretty big deal.
