Emperor's Furor
What do you guys think? Having read the Dusk Raiders background and seen the Iron Hands rules it got me thinking the rules would be idealy suited for the Dusk Raiders, heavy infantry that makes heavy use of proto-dreadnoughts (prior to them joining the Imperium) Can ignore the Ironfather part but everything else seems to sum up the Dusk Raiders a lot better than the Death Guard rules do. I don't understand the context of the bold statement. Furthermore I don't see the Iron Hand rules overlapping the Dusk Raiders/Death Guard play style. Emperor's Furor
In the first Betrayal Book the majority of the Dusk Raiders as they would come to be known, came from Old Albia. The way they fought consisted of heavy infantry supported by proto-dreadnoughts. They wouldn't give into the Emperor as they saw him as just a replacement for the Unspeakable King which they had a pivotal role in getting rid of. Instead of watching both sides continue to grind each other down the Emperor instead offered them peace and the option of taking their fights to the stars, the majority of Old Albia's sons formed the Dusk Raiders, some joined the X Legion (Iron Hands). They also provided a lot of secrets of their war machines to the Emperor. So from the information provided by Betrayal the Dusk Raiders style of combat was unrelenting heavy infantry at dusk supported by walking war-machines. Sounds very familiar to the Iron Hands to me. They only altered drastically when Mortarion was found and began to change them to fit his image moving away from technological combat and more towards chemical warfare. DuskRaider
The Dusk Raiders are just Death Guard by another name. They had different combat doctrine to a point, but otherwise they had the same geneseed, so no... Iron Hands rules would make no sense. Death Guard traits for Dusk Raiders. Emperor's Furor
Yeah but Dusk Raiders wouldn't be using Power Scythes and there's no advantage for running them as heavy infantry unlike the iron hands rules which give -1 str to attacks made against them, plus the head of the gorgon rite would make sense in regards to their attacks at dusk. It's just an idea though, nevermind. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280451-dusk-raiders-using-iron-hands-rules/#findComment-3466437 Share on other sites

It's just an idea though, nevermind. Well honestly, I'm of the opinion that a select few should be running Power Scythes anyhow, as per the background Mortarion personally gives them to his very best warriors and from what I know, only the Deathshroud and Typhon carry them around. The FW rules have kind of lessened the significance of the weapon though, and that's kind of off putting IMO. The advantage of running a heavy infantry army is running a heavy infantry army. You really don't need special rules to reflect that. Honestly, if you want to run an Albion-esque force, why don't you just wait to see the background for the Iron Hands in Massacre? I'm sure they have details of their formation and combat doctrine Pre-Manus, so I'm sure you could run an army using that. But the Legion traits also take into account the geneseed they possess from their Primarch, not just the tactics. I can just see a million people running to the Iron Hands Traits now because they seem to be pretty darn powerful. Emperor's Furor
It's not really because the traits are strong it's because I feel they fit the Dusk Raiders more pre-mortarion. They use dreadnoughts and walk into battle, so I could easily see them having a good relationship with the mechanicus which would explain the ability to use them as elites. Nevermind, I like the idea but I've gone off it now that a friend of mine is planning a traditional Iron Hands army and I'd rather play something different.
