Super glue recommendations

I second pinning - the old lead backpacks are heavy, and the contact point is small. Even if you get a glue to stick it, why risk the pack coming off later?

Also, a quick note on glues:

Like a lot of things in our hobby (...the wargaming hobby at large, as opposed to just GW! :p), we are often ripped off when it comes to hobby supplies.

Glue is no exception, and stuff like PVA and superglue (cyanoacrylate in fact) is often diluted when sold as being for "hobby" or "craft" work. If you buy the industrial stuff, you get a much stronger (less-diluted) product for your money. You often get a bigger bottle for less cash too.

Best places to look for good glues (and actually tools like files, clippers, and such in general) are DIY/tool stores.

Or use two-part epoxy glue, as that's much stronger than superglue, though you'll need to support the pieces while the glue hardens.

Oh, and be sure to clean all the oxides etc. off the parts, especially from any areas that will have glue applied to them. Using a copper-wire brush on the parts until they shine is a good way to do this.

I like loc-tite personally, but the reason I like it is that it lets me break my models apart easier (I'm constantly rebuilding things, I think I  have a problem). For the metal vanguard packs I used green stuff to stick them on and it seems to be working out fine. I did the same with my Dante and his metal jump pack, dropped him from about waist high onto a concrete garage floor. His paint chipped, but his jump pack is still attached.
