recon0321
Reading betrayer right now...it mentioned A UM wearing a alternate Aquila....not the palatine Aquila symbol of the emperor...there was another version? So maybe there could be a few sprinkled in a HH army? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280579-alternate-aquila/ Share on other sites
Brother-Sergeant Bohemond
The Palatine Eagle was the Emperors symbol, I believe, whereas the normal Aquila was just that. Conn Eremon
It is never really stated. But, in the Emperor's Children piece of Betrayal, there is a sidebar talking about the Aquila their wear, specifically called the Palatine Aquila. It shows a stylized aquila that has two bolts of lightning coming from beneath the wings. In the section.called Age of the Emperor, the exact same aquila can be seen. The images of Emperor's Children also show that exact aquila. Images of other Legions show an aquila, but it is the same as the basic image we all know and love. No bolts, less stylized. In the Unification Wars, the Emperor used as his standard a bolt of lightning. The Thunder Regiments were named for it and the Emperor's armor retains it. There is another term for the aquila, the Aquila Imperialis. I think that is the Imperium's symbol, which is available to whoever the heck wants to put it on. The Palatine Aquila is the Emperor's personal emblem, blending his old Terran Warlord symbol with that of the Imperium, which only the Emperor's Children can wear. This is my deduction. I have yet to see anything that actually states anything one way or another. GrandMagnus
This is the Palatine Aquila, the Emperors own heraldry and worn ONLY by the EC: http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4060/lbzg.jpg This is the Imperial Aquila, the badge of the Imperium itself, worn by space marines, army troops, found on administratum buildings, etc. http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3310/pgo3.jpg So, only the Palatine Aquila for EC, but you can add the Imperial Aquila to any other marines.
