Brothers i need your guidance..

I dont play the game, just in it for the Lore (for now). My question is how much Lore are there in the 2 Forge World Horus Heresy books? And how much is gameplay related?

They are quite expensive.. but just all the different pictures make me want to buy them ;P

So what do you recommend for me as an lore guy? Buy or not to buy...

And the lore in these books, is it new stuff that the HH series from BL haven´t told or the same?

Death to the false Emperor!

Betrayal has indepth background on Sons of Horus/Luna Wolves, Death Guard, World Eaters and Emperors Children. More than I have ever read anywhere else. The rules sections are still packed full of lore, detailing things like planetary conditions on Istvaan, the organisation of pre-heresy legions and there fighting styles. The rules for the Primarchs arn't bad either.

I agree it's hugely expensive. I was initally thinking about not buying Massacre but the fluff is drawing me in. I will get it, it's just a case of when. I look on it using the following simple rules:

Will I read it more than once? How often will I refer to it? Will it entertain me? If you think about dividing up the number of times you read it, 70 times equals £1 a read, it seems more resonable. If you'll only read it once then £70 is a lot of money, try and borrow a copy.

I closing I will say I love my copy. The quality of the binding is excellent, the pages are thick and of good quality and the illustrations are pretty wub.gif . It's all about will you get the use out of it, in terms of time spent with your investment.

Well, I looked at this the other day as I was contemplating purchases, and the book has the following contents (roughly):

13 pages introduction to the Age of the Emperor (Great Crusade etc)

9-10 pages on the Legions and their role in the Crusade, including a pictorial breakdown of the ORBAT of a "standard" Legion

26 pages on Isstvan III (the Battle etc)

77 pages on the specific Legions:

- 19 pages on the Sons of Horus

- 17 pages on the World Eaters

- 19 pages on the Emperor's Children

- 17 pages on the Death Guard

- 5 pages on the Legio Mortis

24 pages on the Death of Isstvan III campaign

15 pages on the Zone Mortalis extension to the campaign

90 pages of army lists, rules, wargear etc

10 pages of Apocalypse and special rules summaries

Looks like an almost 50/50 split of lore to rules pages.

Aye! Looking ahead to Book 2, however, if the 90 pages or so of army lists aren't in there, and the book is roughly the same size as Book 1, that's an extra-huge dollop of fluff ice cream topped with awesome sauce that'll be coming everyone's way! smile.png

Dude you know you want the book, just get it lol

The fluff is outstanding and makes codexes look like GW gave a crayon to someone to scribble their childhood drivels on it.

Betrayal is the grown man's fluff and seems almost a throwback to John Blanche's original art in its writing style.

The legions are expounded upon in great detail and are quite amazing, especially the parts with the legion disposition sections.

Some stories about the legions are deliciously controversial, and there are quite a few parts where you can see the Emperor's hand at work to try and clean up the back stories about the primarchs, but shady rumors and apocryphal stories point otherwise despite censure.

When making trips to my throne I sometimes bring it with to read as some subtle motifs pop up where unnoticed before.

Definitely worth every penny, I gauantee you. This is the fluff you really wanted and need. I promise there are no mary sues either, just things at the intersection of grim and dark.

The fluff stretches as far back as what part of Terra their original marines came from, that's how far it goes, truly awesome.

Indubitably.

You want to play a Dusk Raider force? No problem

Wonder about the effectiveness of the War Hounds and their role? Yup, its there too, in the form of 3 million dead convicts and some Thunder Warriors....

Want to know the parts of the MkII crusade armor and its weapon designations...well too bad its not there....JUST KIDDING IT HAS THIS STUFF TOO!!!
