I have a TDA Lone Wolf that I gave just a Storm Shield that I sometimes stick on my Aegis. Plus I modeled one up with a couple of steins with a foot resting on a barrel. Couldn't resist!! ;)

with the lone wolfs... can you not just use a wgtda, or does the model need to be modelled in a certain way?

Up to you, some people like to give him ceremonial markings, but its all up to you.

 

My Lone Wolves are all WG level- often the last of their pack, given the rank as an honor for surviving where so many fell, and given the tools to find the blessed end in the emperors name they crave. If they overcome everything in their path for a set period, they are brought back into the fold as a full WG, their honor debt to the fallen fulfilled.

it depends. what would you do if your opponents only anti  flyer unit, had only one  model manning it?

Also, if he shoots down1-2 flyers, he's easily made back his glorious death lost point, especially if one of those flyers is a helldrake which would otherwise toast half your grey hunter/long fang squads ;)

Yep the one point they give for living in the one brb scenario that it counts in is nothing if the lone wolf earns twice as many (or more) kp as he gives up.

 

I do think, in our next codex, the lone wolf will get more badass, a little more expensive, and that glorious death will probably be something important to achieve. They can fix that by letting him take a bike, thunderwolf, or jump-pack, and we'll be able to get him where he needs to be so we can get him killed.

I think he will get the it will not die rule. In the next codex. Plus we will most likely get an armory and thunder wolves will be special issue wargear like jump packs and bikes.

So what if we lose thunder wolf calvary but the option to take one as wargear remains for the wolf lord, wolf priest, battle leader, iron priest and lone wolves?

 

Saga of the wolf king +25 pts: He who has mastered the beast without shall tear the throats of his enemies with lightning fangs.

 

The wolf lord must seek out high ranking members of the enemy force and show them the smile of his axe.

 

A space wolves force lead by a wolf lord with this saga may mount one unit of wolf guard on thunder wolves for +45 pts each. In addition all thunder wolf wolves (the mount not the rider) gain the scout special rule.

hmm i do not like the idea of loosing TWC. when ever i use them in non tourni lists, they do soooo well and it is a fun unit to play!

I was in a 600 point event yesterday where this would have come in handy.
I will find a way to create one, for some reason every shield and every chain fist I have and have been able to get my hands on are all left hand side.

Yeah, I encountered the same problem. I just clipped the chain bit off the left-hand chainfist and put it onto a right-handed wolf claw bit that the claw bits removed. Worked well, and required little work. Even better considering how many wolf claws we get.

Whirlwind works fine for me, and now best for the actual metagame, my opponents never expects that a SW take some of artillery and they are always expecting some missile launches Long Fangs.

 

So I always take a TDA LW too :)

I liked the idea of a giant chainsword. Hook up some power cables to it, and voila!! Counts as Chain Fist (just add water ;) )!!

I just used a bit of gs, a chopped off chainsword, and a powerfist

Predator with heavy bolters. Just use it as moving terrain. Even lascannons need a 4 to glance it. Plus by turn 2 you have a good firebase pouring out lots of shots. This is more of a unit that helps your army. I don't think mine has ever made its points back but has always attracted a lit of attention so I keep running it. I guess because it is my biggest model people just think it needs to die more than my grey hunters.
