Heresy Era Dark Angels

I have finally decided to assemble some miniatures and prime them for my long planned HH Dark Angels army.  I don't know if I'll ever play a game with them or do anything beyond build and paint them we'll see how this goes.  I thought I should post some pics as I go along starting with the first primed models.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice as I go along.  I want these marines to look good and I can handle constructive criticism.  These first few marines are mainly a color test were fun to assemble so pics:

Nice start!

Thanks, I mainly wanted to get some pics up so that I have more incentive to keep working on them.  I still need to touch up the primer today and try to get a basecoat on them with the airbrush but it feels good to have a topic and pics.

I know what you mean. I really like the poses on these guys, too. Btw, I see a couple of stray hairs caught in the primer. Might want to get after those with some tweezers before you get to the base coat. I've had that happen before where I never noticed them until I took some WIP to post.

Yeah, I already got the hairs.  I didn't see them until I was editing the pics.  I think that posting the wip photos might help my painting too, I hope so anyway.  I'm not sure how much painting I'll get done today it's club night and there are many deals to be discussed there.  I can't miss another weekend there.

Glorious! Been waiting for you to start and I like where it's going so far, only comment would be maybe back the photos off a little just so we can see the whole model without having to scroll.

I would love to if only I had some clue as to how that's done.  I'm going to need to do some reading up on image posting and such I guess.

You can crop and resize the pics inside Imgur. Click on the Images button at the top of the screen, then mouse over the pic you want to edit. An icon of a paint palette will appear in the lower left corner like this:

Click the icon, then an Edit button will appear. Click that, and it takes you to this screen:

I like the poses of number 1, 4 and 5.

Thank you.  The pose of the Sgt #1 is pretty well determined by the fact that he is a Destroyer marine and the torso and legs are all one piece.  Marines 4&5 were rescued from a scrapped Blood Angels project that never got much farther than assembly of a few marines.  They will probably be split out into a different squad later.

About time, there are far too many night lords running around this subforum unchecked ;)

It looks as though you may have something caught in your primer on a couple of the minis - cobweb, maybe? Very fine hair? That's going to be a lot of hassle in the painting stage, I'd take a tweezers to it now.

Mikhail!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow this has been long comming brother! Congratulations on the start!

a couple of suggestions for you though.

brak up the parts in to sub assemblies.  this i really helpfull when working, with an airbrush deffinately.

goes as such:

legs toreso,

arms sepperatly

head sepperatly

shoulder pards seperatly.

weapon seperatly.

then assemble when done.

that way, you can hit every area with the brush, build up the highlights.  Lets you work with free hand on the pads.. get more accesability to smaller and very importaint aress like the chest plate, eyes on the helmet and all.

good luck!

Brother Melice it is so very good to have you posting in my thread.  I'm excited to be working on some marines and to see you working on the Sons of Horus as well.  You can expect a pm from me later today.  I never even thought about working on my marines in sub-assemblies but it certainly makes a lot of sense now that you mention it.  I primed these with a rattle can and I think I would have been better off with a brush!
