Theduke08
Hey guys im trying to figure out which would be better to include with a unit of Sternguard. Would you guys take Corbulo or a Librarian in terminator armor with a storm shield. These guys will be podding in T1 along with a Furioso. Taranis
I love Corbulo but here I would take the libby. He has cc punch for deploying with the sternguard up close in rapid fire range. Any ideas for powers? Fear and sword of Sanguinius or BRB? Morticon
Libby needs a turn to become effective (via divination). Corbs is good from the second he touches down, and helps loads with interceptor problems. Does depend on your meta though. Crusader Bob
I second Corbulo, or a bare bones Sanguinary Priest if we're going cheap. Expecially if the squad comes with pods. They'll be eating a ton of fire, and a priest makes them a lot tougher to kill. Theduke08
Yea my only issue is that im trying to find the extra points for Corbs and already have the Librarian in my army. If i did include the libby he would being drawing from divination. Do you guys have any suggestions on what a good third drop pod unit would be? Im kind of leaning towards a space marine honor guard but im not sure. Any other BA units that would compliment the two i already plan to drop? Ushtarador
Death company or another furioso, definitely :) I would use death company because they can screen your sternguard, or countercharge if your opponent ignores them, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280625-ic-to-go-with-sternguard/#findComment-3469894 Share on other sites
Khorneeq
My personal favorite character for Sternguards is Tycho :D But in Your setup I think that Corbulo would be better, he's totally worth his extra points over standard Priest. Memento Of Prospero
In interceptor units or return fire are giving you trouble, Corbulo is the man for the job. This is worth double when you are dropping with another unit that can benefit from him - another unit of sternguard, tactical or ASM marines that is combat squaded for example. Morticon
Fragioso is a great additional drop unit. DC too, since you dont need them close to Corbs/Priest for FNP. Phadeout
Corbulo, if the libby is in your list as warlord you are also dropping him right in front of the opponent and saying "come get my victory point" if the libby wouldn't be your warlord it's a bit different but you still have the issue with not getting to roll powers until the turn after you've been shot at by everything on the opposite side of the table. Sternguard are such a threat to many armies that you can't ignore them but they do tend to die when focussed on. Corbs can really mess with some armies in this as the Sternguard can get a lot more survivability, if the opponent doesn't wipe them they potentially lose two or more high value targets and "waste" a turn or more of shooting...
