Problems coming decent list

This being a Horus Heresy list is by definition going to be a fluff centric endeavor however I would like to at least have a chance vs standard 40k armies. I'd also like to either use Crysos Morturg (Loyalist Death Guard) or Shabran Darr (Loyalist World Eaters). The problem that I've been having is that I've thus far failed to come up with a decent idea that takes advantage of the rules of either HQ. So now I turn to the expertise of other in search of help. Is it possible to make a decent list using either of those characters as a HQ?

Crysos Morturg is a boss and so is his traitor counterpart, Durak Rask.

Crysos benefits from having rad grenades, a power sword, and a combi flamer; all of which are amazing.

On top of that loveliness he has infiltrate and the endurance psyker power which buff the beejezus out of squads.

I would say to take him and infiltrate him and a despoiler squad (cc weapons and bolters) and just park on an objective. The combi flamer gives that nice wall of flame rule, and the rad grenades give -1 T to the charging unit, which is absolutely awesome. And, well power swords speak for themselves.

If you want shabran darr, then make sure he is always giving challenges to get rending since he has only a mastercrafted chainaxe and will die like a beat mule to power weapons.

Definitely take advantage of his bloody handed rule and either stick him in an assault squad or a tac squad with cc weapons instead of bolters and stick them in a land raider or a spartan.

These guys do great for a isstvaan survival themed force and I would say take Morturg over Darr because the world eater rules are a little lacking at the moment. You can take both since they banded together to fight and there is even a short story about them.

If you are feeling heretical, pick Durak Rask. He's another one of the better characters. The volkite serpenta and the thunder hammer do wonders and I think he has a phosphex bomb too.

You can be a little cheesy and stick him with a squad of plasma gunners and a drop pod with the drop pod rites of war. Deep strike him in with that squad close to an enemy squad camped out on an objective so you can give the squad the target priority special rule which is absolutely nasty with plasma guns and reduces the chances of gets hot!

Either do that or stick him with a squad of outflanking veterans with 2 missle launchers and suspensor webs so you can benefit from the art of destruction and target priority as well.

Hope that helps! I was thinking of taking Crysos or Rask purely for their great rules as a detachment to my WEs. Ive given you everything from fluffy, to competitive, to slightly cheesy. :D

Darr is insanely good. He gives Preferred Enemy to ALL models in his detachment. Barring that, he really isn't very good, since he effectively has a master-crafted toothpick.

Rask and Morturg are pretty sweet though.

meh. He doesn't get the preferred enemy unless against a traitor 30k force, which depends on your local meta. And that is only for Darr, not anyone else.

He just confers fear to the squad he's in not preferred enemy. I think you just got a little confused but its ok :)

oh and did i mention that all death gaurd units ignore fear? Yeaaaaah Darr looses out. If he had been a 50 point upgrade for a sergeant, then yeah I would take him, but the HH negates pretty much most of his stuff.
