No Foes Remain
Hail Brothers (and sisters), I was just wondering how someone would go about creating a DIY chapter for the 13th 'Dark' Founding and how it would be different from any other founding. Just as a note I'm not going to be doing it myself, I just wondered about this when I was writting notes down for another chapter I am making when their founding date came into question. Regards, Ventris. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280664-13th-founding-chapters/ Share on other sites
exetus
Well, there are only two known Chapters from the 13th Founding, so you kinda have carte blanche. Nothing really separates the Death Specters from anyone else but the Exorcists are "special" and have unique ties to the Inquisition due to their acting as daemonhosts for a short time during development. I'd say that someone creating a Dark Founding Chapter should try to explain the curious circumstance of WHY they have maintained the secrecy of their founding. Lucien Eilam
The problem you have to resolve with a Dark Founding Chapter is that the only established fact about them is that nobody in the Imperium knows anything about them at all. Which either precludes your Chapter knowing that they're 13th Founding, or means they know but aren't telling. If the former, they're exactly like any other "Unknown Founding" Chapter. If the latter, you need to explain why they're keeping it secret, which is difficult to do without establishing exactly what went on in the Dark Founding. If you do that, you're making up details of major event in the background that GW might one day develop further, invalidating your explanation. Personally, I think the simplest way to handle it is to have them be Unknown Founding, even to themselves, but have their earliest appearance in the records shortly after the 13th. The trademark GW vague mystery clause. Maybe they are 13th, maybe it's just coincidence and they're an older Founding that lost their records. That gives you a hint in that direction you can build on if GW ever flesh out the story, and no worries about clashing with later additions to the lore. Malthe
I seem to remember someone making a quite convincing argument that the Exorcists are the entire reason why the 13th Founding was 'dark'. Them being all dodgy, daemon-possesed, Grey Knights-doubles and all... I'm afraid I can't remember who or where it was.Otherwise I agree with the above; treat it like a chapter of unknown founding. But please only do it if you're going to do something with it. Snow flakes may be unique, but that doesn't make them very interesting ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280664-13th-founding-chapters/#findComment-3473704 Share on other sites
