About to fight ork, anyone know the answer to this?

Hi everyone!

I have an upcoming game against guard with potential ork allies.   Can a big meks kustom force field be used to provide a cover save to allied guard tanks?   Just wondering if I should prepare for this as a possible contingency...

Thanks!

“A kustom force field gives all units within 6" of the Mek a cover save of 5+. Friendly vehicles within 6" are counted as being obscured and have a 5+ cover save”. (Ork FAQ)

In short, yes. As obviously seen above, all units within 6" get a cover save, while only friendly vehicles get a cover save.

Orks and Imperial Guard are allies of convenience.

"Units in your army treat Allies of Convenience as enemy units..."

So, while the Imperial Guard infantry will get a cover save (as well as enemy units!), the tanks of the Imperial Guard will not get a cover save.

There used to be much debate over this on the WAAAGH! forums for this very reason. With the FAQ changing, I'd go with as described here, where troops get the save but vehicles don't. It's as the rule is written and clarified.

Well that is just sweet, sweet candy!  Been trying to sort out how to beat an IA1 tank formation with allied orks and there is a VERY good chance those orks will either be nob bikers led by a warboss or battlewagons with boyz and lootahs with a big mek.  Perhaps a combo of the 2.

Thanks for the help!
