Suspensor webs and Art of Destruction?

No, because the profile is not changed. Does Relentless change a weapons profile? No. So why does SW? The seemingly simpler way of SW just giving the model Relentless has a good number of possible unit ended results. So FW went with a specific unique rule. "Act as" means it may assault after firing just like an assault weapon, not weapon is now an assault weapon with half the range.

An email from GW/FW means nothing, I'm still confused why people keep bring these up.

Correct. The ML is listed as a heavy weapon, nowhere is it listed as an assault weapon. So RAW, it is always a heavy weapon even if, as in this case, it acts as if it were something else. To me, their wording in English English makes it clear that RAI is the same as RAW. There would have been much simpler ways of expressing things if they'd wanted it to become an assault weapon.

I'm looking forward to hearing FW ruling on this one to see if their intent was different.

I agree with you guys, but I'd at least like to hear what FW says.

At least that way we know what they intended, and can bring the email if any opponents have the same problem.

But then again, it begs the question: "What exactly qualifies a weapon as a heavy weapon?"

In my mind weapons are somewhat clearly divided into 3 unofficial catagories

normal: bolters and such

special: flamers, volkites, plasma, melta guns

heavy: missile launchers, plasma cannons, lascannons

But where do things like plasma blasters and heavy flamers go?

Heavy flamers would imply a heavy weapon, but have an assault profile.

Plasma blasters have an assault profile - probably a special weapon, but only carried by termies and dreads because it is a heavy weapon

This normally wouldn't matter, but when the weird wording comes up about heavy weapons as opposed to Heavy weapons it gets confusing (think of dakkapole changing bolters to salvo)

My brain hurts from too much thinking. Need to chop something up to clear my senses. teehee.gif

I would say that anything with heavy in the profile is a heavy weapon. But the reintro of war gear lists should make it easy. For Suppression Web it really does not matter at the moment, because the web is not an option bought without already being part of the weapon.

Hi,

Thank you for your email. The Suspensor web allows you to treat the weapons as assault weapons for the purpose of firing, however, for all other purposes and rules they are still Heavy weapons, so they can benefit from the Art of Destruction special rule.
