Collaboration with the Sturmkrieg fanfiction encyclopedia

Recommended Posts

I've been working as part of a group project on creating an encyclopedia for Warhammer 40,000 fanfiction.  The purpose is to have the fanfiction that everyone creates together in a single, comprehensive encyclopedia of Warhammer 40,000 fluff as created by players.  Writers can write articles about any subject from their fanfiction creation, such as their armies, worlds, sectors, empires, or even specific weapons and vehicles that are used by their faction or army.  As an example of what can be done, you can take a look at the Volianvan Sector category that was created by one of the writers:

Normally new articles start out in the fanfiction category, but we have a benefit for writers who write a lot about their background creations where they get their own category and portal page.  Everyone else with fewer articles can still make a series template that can go on their articles to list everything else they've written.

The encyclopedia is designed to be extremely scaleable so that someone can come and write only one article about their army, and someone else can write 200 pages about the sector that their army is from and everything about it.

Including everyone's work in a single encyclopedia is designed to encourage collaboration and for people to build off one another's fluff.  It's also intended to help direct readers to any particular writer's work.  We also do promotions on the wiki for writers who do a good job with lists of featured articles.

While we take a liberal view of canon and allow anything that's not a direct contradiction in order to promote creativity, the encyclopedia is also designed to be regulated to ensure reasonable quality so that everything all works together within the same 40k universe.

What I'm thinking is we could have a sticky thread here on the fanfiction board about the fanfiction encyclopedia and recommend that users can write their fanfiction their and discuss it here on the forum.  In exchange, I can add this forum to a list of supporting websites on the main page and we can encourage users to come to this forum if they're looking to discuss their work.

I think that this would be a good service for people looking to write fanfiction who who have just thought up background for their armies.  Lord Kesharq is one of the regulars, and he seems to have found it useful.

Not yet. We're still observing how the first part of the restructuring works to identify any refinements we might make. We don't want to rush that as effectiveness right after a major change is always different from effectiveness once everyone gets used to the major change.
