ianj253
So, I've been playing my Eldar recently. It's given me a nice break from BA and opened my eyes to another playstyle (previously I'd only played BA). As most of you know, Eldar jetbikes are awesome. There mobility is just unmatched. In movement you can go 12 inches. If you flat out you can go another 36, and if that wasn't enough in the assault phase you can go another 2d6. This mobility allow's you to keep your bikes safe and then when game ends come you can easily grab objectives, gain linebreaker, or deny objectives. Scatter laser war walkers would provide some awesome ranged support to my jumper based army, but it's a pricey unit to bring. Battle focus is pretty awesome though as it lets you blast away and then either get out of range or hop into cover. Here's a possible set up Autarch: Jetbike Windrider squad: 3 man Windrider squad: 3 man Warwalkers: 3 walkers, 6x scatter laser Comes in at 397 points What do you guys think about the idea? Spaz431
Tau are battle brothers so you can do better than eldar. Edit: Sorry if that sounded harsh. Edit 2: Eldar jetbikes cannot move in the assault phase, if they turbo in the shooting. It is considered a voluntary action. I almost lost a friend to that rule. He was playing dark eldar. ianj253
Tau are battle brothers for C:SM, not for BA. Thanks for pointing out the assault phase move. Still moving up to 48 inches though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280840-eldar-allies-anyone/#findComment-3473323 Share on other sites
Spaz431
I would use the bikes as a bubble wrap for the autarch, six additional wounds on a tough 4 character will be beneficial. And personally as an eldar player, use a Farseer. 3 psychic powers: Prescience on own unit. Guide on walkers. And whatever else you roll. Edit 1: combo the scatter on each walker with a shuriken cannon, same strength (I think (not looking at codex)), possible AP2. Edit 2: this conversation needs to be on something like dakka. Sorry for harshness. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280840-eldar-allies-anyone/#findComment-3473339 Share on other sites
ianj253
I think you're missing the point on the bikes. Really they're just there to score and contest. The only reason of taking the autarch is he allows me cheap access to the bikes. I'd agree with you on the farseer being a better choice than the autarch if this was a pure eldar list or if they were BB. However, there just isn't enough for him to cast his powers on. Autarch also allows me to modify my reserve rolls by +1 or -1, which helps me get my reserves on when I want them. Cannons range is 24 and SL range is 36. I'd prefer to keep these back and out of range from small arms fire like bolters and pulse rifles. Memento Of Prospero
SM bikers currently do it better than eldar jet bikes. They are more resilient, Battle-Broskies, have ATSKNF and the captain can be much more killy than an Autarch. The new SM code really allows us to get a nice range of new units. ianj253
I think its debatable. Space marines win in the categories you mentioned. Eldar Jetbikes win in Speed: movement + turbo boost = up to 48 inches (SM bikes can only go 24 in one turn) Cost: cheaper than SM bikes. Min squad is 51pts (SM squad must be 5=121). Lower buy in: SM have to take a bike captain to unlock bike troops. I'd also debate to who is more killy between an autarch and a SM captain. Autarch: Bike, Banshee mask, Shard of andaris, Mantle, fusion gun-180pts For that cost I think you'd be hard pressed to match him with an SM captain. The fact SM and BA are allies is great, but I think when you're taking WS allies the effect's of BB is almost negligible. I think SM Bikes have merit, but I think they'd fill a different role then eldar jetbikes. In my list I see jetbikes taking the place of my cheap scoring unit, scouts. Ushtarador
Actually, the SM captain will just equip his eternal warrior stormshield and trusty thunderhammer and stomp your Autarch's face ;) But of course the autarch and the eldar detachment in general are a lot cheaper, that's true! However, I don't think mobility is what BA lack - in contrary, we are the most mobile marine army there is. In my games I usually have enough small ASM squads to drop on objectives, but I lack solid, reliable fire support. Still, they are a nice choice and the jetbikes are definitely awesome :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280840-eldar-allies-anyone/#findComment-3473460 Share on other sites
sockwithaticket
Gents, last I checked discussion of xenos allies is prohibited on B&C, so expect Mort or one of the other mods to melta this thread. Morticon
Gents, last I checked discussion of xenos allies is prohibited on B&C, so expect Mort or one of the other mods to melta this thread. As noted, the only place you can discuss allied on the B&C is in army list section in relation to specific lists. B&C is otherwise still a power armour site. Sorry lads. Melta time.... (but considering its xenos...its for your own good). Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280840-eldar-allies-anyone/#findComment-3473825 Share on other sites
