White Scars and Sons of Horus on Allies Chart

I've only just noticed this since it's the first time I've considered doing Sons of Horus and having White Scars as allies or vice versa. Having looked at the chart I was astounded by the difference between the two's point of views.

Apparently if I went with the White Scars as my primary detachment and used the Sons of Horus as my allies they'd be Sworn Brothers, HOWEVER if I went with Sons of Horus as my primary detachment and used the White Scars as my allies they'd be Distrusted Allies!

That's a two stage difference, from being able to use everything your primary detachment has to your allies not even being scoring units.

Kind of weird, especially if you've read Scars then again maybe this is evidence of Horus having secret contempt of the the Khan, maybe thinking he is a barbarian.

It all depends on how the Legions viewed one another. For example, if you take Night Lords as your Primary Detachment, Death Guard are Sworn Brothers. However, if you take Death Guard as your Primary Detachment, then Night Lords are just Battle Brothers or whatever it is (I'm at work).

I'd imagine that it's a matter of trust on the battlefield (re: Roboute's dauntless few). Both Jaghati and Horus respect and trust eachother... but on the battlefield, Horus just can't rely on The Khan's Legion to adhere to the plan and be reliable.

It's rather well thought out imo. far better than in 40k where you're best of buddies for both sides etc. for instance we know that Sanguinius was close with Horus but not vice-versa or how Russ felt close to the Khan and Dorn but Dorn felt Russ unreliable and Khan felt him a little to lax on following the path of others (they both preferred their own methods of warfare, but the Khan was more willing to compromise and fight alongside others).

I would say that it makes sense, they both value each other as warriors, and yet to Horus the Khan is a possible obstruction, a fine warrior and leader but one who may be 'too faithful' to the big E and as such a problem. To the Khan Horus is the Warmaster, a strong warrior-leader and an example of what it is to be mighty yet dutiful, so understandably to very different views.
