Citadel Texture

Recommended Posts

I'm working on adding some dirt and grit (technically going for 'sand') on a tank's treads, and I was wondering about Citadel Texture.

Firstly, how textured is it?  Meaning is it super chunky, is there good variance in the size of grains, is it actually not very textured at all, etc.

Second, how durable is it?  Seeing as it seems to have been designed for basing (where there's little to no chance of wear and tear), I don't know if GW went to any length to make sure it had a good, tenacious cling like a typical paint would.  My carrying case is a rather snug fit for vehicles, and if frequent brushing along a rough sponge would rip it off, that is a bit of a problem for me.

The color is largely irrelevant, seeing as I'll be painting over it.

From what I understand it's quite light in grain, but becomes more irregular the more layers you put on.

Vallejo have been doing a similar line for a while, well before gw started doing it, which also comes in larger tubs and is quite reasonably priced. I've seen that used and it seems to do pretty much the same thing.

Here's a

from an independent reveiwer showing the GW stuff in use.

Hope this helps :)

I finally got sick of green stuffing all my bases and took the plunge and got the grey texture for rank and file. It's been pretty good. If you lay it on really thick you don't need to layer it. It's not a cure all but it's worth adding to your bag of trick, in my estimation.

Yeah, all I need it for is some splotchy dabbing here and there along the tank's tracks and lower edges. I don't need a solid layer from end to end, or especially thick chunks of it, just some dabbing smile.png

I'm sticking to the traditional basing method, even though I loathe doing it. Consistency throughout, and all that.

You couldn't go far wrong with the diy variant. Mix some bicarb of soda into pva glue (I use evostik).

You can dilute the glue with a smidge of water and the end result can be as clumpy as you wish depending on how much you apply and how you apply. And once it's dry there is no way that is budging, short of hacking at it with a blade.

You can see the type of result I achieved on my rhino and Helbrute. At least if you look at the gallery under my old user name plague of sedition. Only reason for the name change is that I can't seem to sort out my password. I am technologically inept I do apologise.
