Khan's Honour Guard

Emperor's Furor

In Brotherhood of the Storm we see some marines standing guard at his quarters door, surprisingly they are wearing Mk I thunder armour..now I know it's far fetched but do you think there's something else going on here? I'd really love it if the White Scars still made use of this Mk in a combat capacity, maybe limited to an elite group or something?

My mind keeps wandering towards Thunder Warriors, but that'd be too far-fetched.

Lexicanum says Thunder Armour's leg area isn't powered, all energy going to the chest and arms. So it seems viable, beyond having no life-support systems, so no fighty out of ship or cozy planets. They should at least look great, even if the MkI helms are a bit goofy.

I'm going to have some spare mk II crusade armour legs and I'm wondering whether these could be used to convet some thunder warriors, however I'd like it if they could actually be used though so that's why I'm not really considering doing unless something like the unique honour guard I mentioned comes true.

That would be cool, after reading an article on the thunder armour, perhaps it made them stronger than normal power armour users considering it sacrificed potentially powering the legs and head systems to focus on powering the arms which increased the strength of the wearer by a factor of between 3 and 4 times. Maybe strength 5 or 6 standard marines?

The Problem with Mk1 armour is its glorified Carapace armour, I think its highly unlikely they use it for anything but ceremonial purposes, especially as they are depicted using Terminator armour in Scars.

That Said Mk1/2 hybrids look pretty sweet, a buddy of mine converted some to be a command squad. I think they represent Artificer armour quite well but pure Mk1 suits are obsolete.

I was about to say they were obsolete in my post up there but then I remembered that, in the grim future, object age comes with relic status and, therefore, increased quality - if maintained. I'm sure that practice took place with MkI armour. It simply wasn't usable in non-breathable environments, but for cerimonial uses and bodyguards it seems apt.
