Cod
http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa216/cod_lover/Imperial%20Guard/btr.jpg Ok, I got this model kit cheap, added an autocannon, tried my hand at some urban blue camo and what do you think? Add a twin linked bolter in the little turret? Counts as Chimera? I'm undecided but thought you guys could help. Is it worth getting some more of these, even just for friendly games? shortysl
What's the scale like compared to other models? If it's not similar in size to an actual Chimera model then you'll run into problems. Cod
It's a 1/56 scale. Will try take photos later with a guard figure to show the size better. http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa216/cod_lover/Imperial%20Guard/btr2.jpg Ok, there we go. So it's a 1/56 scale Russian BTR (Bronyetransporter), in use in the 80's, I think, maybe later too You think Steel Legion figures would suit best? WarriorFish
Camouflage is good, maybe too good as it takes a bit of effort to identify parts :P It looks a little thin compared to a Chimera but otherwise I think it's a pretty good fit. You'd need a hull mounted weapon though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280908-counts-as-chimera/#findComment-3474775 Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
Put a heavy bolter on the cupola and you're good for a Chimera, I think. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280908-counts-as-chimera/#findComment-3475124 Share on other sites
Cod
Ok, well thanks for the feedback, I may go ahead and go with this. It's actually for a mutual friends young son who is quite ill. As the families income will be spent on treatment for him I thought if I can paint up some of these cheap 'chimeras' for a xmas gift for him it might be a good thing. Rosco151
Like it, I think it'd be ideal for use with Valhallans, but agree that it's a little to make out detail with the camo. BTR-80 to be exact... I do kit recce for a job, paid to be a geek... SerEightBall
Kind of looks like a few of the UN tanks I've seen. Except that toy you have will probably see more combat than any of the real ones! :D Joking aside, do you happen to have a GW chimera to compare it to? It looks about right, but if you post the dimensions we could tell you how close it is. Anyway it looks good, and good on ya for helping out the kid. Cod
Thank you! Yes it's hard on a 10yr old to be diagnosed with leukemia. It would be nice to have real chimeras to give but I thought if he gets a few of these he could play with his bro and friends and still add leman russ tanks and more when the new IG codex comes out, sort of like to give him something to look forward to/work towards. Well I think size wise it'll be close, I don't own any chimeras but do have rhinos and these kits are a bit longer. I've kind of decided to go ahead anyway, when something is on special at a crazy dirt cheap price you gotta go for it, you may never see it again. And: BTR-80's, just had fun reading about them, interesting. UN?! That's interesting also, the UN vehicles I'm familiar with are the Patria XA-180's which are similar but 6 wheeled. SerEightBall
Yah maybe it was the blue and white that clicked something in me, I'm not much of a treadhead so I couldn't name the one I was thinking of. I'll read up on the BTR-80 later sounds interesting. Back to grimdark, the chimera is about the same length as a rhino, and maybe 1/4" wider. If anybody in a friendly game has a problem with extra side armor to shoot at they don't need to be playing. Cod
Ok, something to share. Well it took a while, been chipping away at this slowly but this is where I'm at with the xmas gift for my friends sick son. So, he gets: 3 counts as Chimeras with autocannons (front and right) 3 counts as Manticores (in the back) 3 tarantulas (left) 2 counts as Chimeras, tarantulas can also be mounted on these! (left) 3 counts as... I'm not sure, lil snow speeders (front) thought he could have fun figuring it out ;-) http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa216/cod_lover/Imperial%20Guard/xmas_gft.jpg If I get time will add the hull flamers/hvy bolters in the cupolas. This was my first attempt also at guard and it was kinda fun. Hope he likes em and his health improves. Time for me to focus on my Currus Belli. WarriorFish
The camouflage looks even better with so many lined up! Maybe the snow bikes could be counts-as rough riders?
