Sheesh Mode
Not to parrot the internet wisdom of editions past, has anyone considered the Rifleman dreadnought? He still shoots four twin-linked s7 ap4 shots at 48 inches. That can be pretty scary for the paper machei ships of the Eldar no? Captain Idaho
Cheaper to have a Stalker. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281003-beating-the-eldar/page/5/#findComment-3491165 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
And it pulls double duty for AA. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281003-beating-the-eldar/page/5/#findComment-3491187 Share on other sites

The problem is weathering that hail of nasty S7 60" Ignore Cover Serpent Shield fire. Captain Idaho
Remember though; if people get carried away with firing their shields they'll be more vulnerable to penetrating hits. Grey Mage
Wich is why I recommend lascannons as you know, a thing. Im still wrapping my head around not having the old forcefield, but S8 just isnt the max anymore. goosey_j
I have no problems with Eldar using their shields offensively. It stops them from degrading pens to glances, which is important. It is time and force consuming business glancing 3+ Wave Serpents to death every game. The Stalker is superior to the Rifleman in terms of points, maneuverability and anti air. The Rifleman is superior to the stalker in that he can target all ground forces and can contribute a drop pod to a drop pod force. Both are well suited to taking out Wave Serpents. Captain Idaho
Yeah but the Rifleman is 50pts odd more expensive. (At work right now) You're better off getting 2 Stalkers for just a bit more than a single Rifleman and splitting fire at ground. 16 shots should net you a solid 4 hits, maybemore, and you retain solid hhitting power versus skimmers and flyers. Sheesh Mode
So Stalkers can shoot at ground targets? Or no? Are the glorified Hydras? (On another note) Thunderfire cannons can shoot S6 ap5, S5 Ap6 ignore cover, or an S4 ap - that forces difficult terrain tests for everything on the ground and dangerous terrain tests for skimmers. All of that is Heavy4 Barrage. That's an excellent firing platform against eldar. And lets not forget the Auspex and its cover reducing power. Stick that on a techmarine and enjoy. Captain Idaho
Indeed any character that is a close combat character should have an Auspex. Use the Auspex on unit Y and charge unit X. Shame Tactical squads can't get them. Most people modelled them on normal Marines rather than characters, so it should have always been "1 Space Marine can have a Heavy Weapon or Auspex." Oh well, maybe 7th edition. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281003-beating-the-eldar/page/5/#findComment-3491753 Share on other sites
