CtFA's Renegade Artillery Regiment.

Recommended Posts

Im starting my renegade army. My first non-power army ever and ive been playing since RT. I figured I would share it's creation with you from inception.

So far I have purchased...

1 Steel Legion commissar. To be used as my company commander or a lord commissar as needed.

1 steel legion squad. These guys will represent my vets.

1 Ccs or Pcs as needed.

1 squad of cadian shock troops. These guys will be my infantry platoons.

1 box of heavy weapons squad.

1 LRBT which will be magnetized to be used as any variant in the box

First up my commander.

Huzzah! More Guard is always welcome, especially if this is your first non-PA army biggrin.png I like your Commissar, he looks suitably imposing and the leafy stuff on the base is very nice. You should drill the barrel of his gun though, that always looks much better and is easy to do smile.png

Looks like you've got a very solid core for your army there, it will keep you busy for a bit. Then you can start investing in the big guns drool.gif What sort of artillery regiment are you thinking of? Heavy Weapon Squads too or just artillery tanks? I've always enjoyed fielding my two Basilisks and Manticore but that's a far cry from a true artillery regiment (my opponents enjoyed it less though).

With the rumblings of a new codex and models there's real hope that we'll get some of the missing kits so this could be the best time to be starting an artillery regiment smile.png I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress thumbsup.gif

for artillery regiments i'd highly recommend earthshaker artillery carriages. at 75 pts they are a steal and you can almost get two of them instead of a normal basilisk, befitting an artillery regiment!

and if you think FW's price is too high, there's also the scrathbuild-option:

Thank you everyone. I appreciate your wisdom and experience.

@warriorfish

ive decided to run the BIG guns. Im thinking at least 3-6 colossus tanks and 3 madusa tanks. Now I haven't bought any basilisk kits yet but if I can im going to make all the guns removable so as suggested I can use them as gun carriages and if I can make griffon kits for all 9 tanks. That should give me some options with out having to buy and paint 9 more $50. kits. The command and infantry squads will use autocannons. The vets will use missile launchers or lascannons and probly plasma guns. All heavy weapons teams will use mortars.

@ hendrick

thanks for the link. Im gonna try to make some gun carriages. As long as I can keep the guns free to swap for either fixed or self propelled varients. this will be a great idea.

My command squad and 1st infantry squad should be done soon. Ill post as soon as im done.

welcome to the proper side of the guard chap msn-wink.gif i say that purely as a fellow traitor guard player but in all seriousness, you couldn't have come to a better place. thanks for sharing your first non-PA army and i must say, i'm liking what i see so far. if i'm gonna have one critique, i'd say the bolt weapon needs a tad more attention, either in terms of painting the muzzle or boring it out a little to give the weapon more depth, but i say this as the only down point, the rest is fantastic. i love the sword, but i especially love the base. what did you use for it and is it going to be repeated across your traitor guard?

looking forward to seeing more of your work fella, what's your next unit gonna be?

This pleases me greatly. You will go far, as will your bits of your opponent's bodies.

Thanks I missed the barrel and ive noticed a couple of little spots that need a little fixen. Yes the dark greys, black and greens will be the primary colors with a splash of red(for artillery) mixed through out. My vets will be a little different in that they will have camo coats and helmets. Well that and they are steel legion models.

The brand of basing material is ”gale force nine” . its pretty good, cheap and best of all fast. It wont win me any awards but it does look good on the table and the brite greens and red really make my grim-dark paint jobs pop. I like it. It was like 3us for a (plastic)tin of it.

As soon as I do a little touch up and finish basing the Ccs and infantry squad theyre done. they'll be coming shortly.

Ok finally finished with my command squad. I still have some work on my infantry squad but my vets keep calling to me.”screw those guys paint us first” :) ok, ok they dont really talk to me but the steel legion models are way cooler than the cadians and I keep finding my self picking them up instead of finishing my infantry squad up. Hope you enjoy.

More to come soon.

Yeah I was just thinking that they look pretty Imperial. If you're really lazy you can just paint some blasphemous markings over the top of scratch them up :)

Still liking the basing, looks like they're fighting over some realistic undergrowth!

The skulls with wings can stay but the aquilas I will probably file off at a later date. Fluff wise the guys are more sucsessionists coerced into leaving the Empire by fallen angels. Not chaos tainted rabble that serve the chaos legions. fortunately the steel legion models don't have to much imperial markings on them so their good as is.

Im kinda in a rush with my painting and stuff. I haven't played a game yet so im getting a little antsy for some table time.

I always took it that ”traitor” insinuated corruption or allying with chaos or xeno. Where as renegade was more of a separation from the empire and having their own agenda. Kinda like the citizens of lost caliban. They (mostly) weren't corrupted they were pissed at the empire for beating their planet of resources and people. Not to mention that the planets chaotic taint was a death sentence for everyone on the planet except the dark angels stationed there. Hence the rebellion that lead to its destruction anyway.

I think the problem is that the different terms have been thrown around and muddied enough that it could almost be anything. I always remember "renegade chapters" who turned on the Imperium and Emperor and went to chaos. Probably GW's fault for being inconsistent more than anything :P

Maybe secessionist is the best term? That surely is quite clear on the meaning of separating from the Imperium but without suggesting chaos taint!

I like the idea so far, especially the idea of a secessionist non-chaos allied guard regiment. Rogue might be a good word? Im doing something similar with my DiY the "Shield's of Myrmidon"'s local PDF's and regiment.

Unfortunately for you though,

It was too good to resist.

I like the renegade idea. More realistic to just want to look after their own the turn openly to chaos. Loads of to work with here.

I am a fan of "revisionist history" in 40K. Any thing can be drawn up. My wolves use different then codex colors but maybe the colors the Space wolves wear aren't really the ones that are in the codex.

My steel legion were sold! to another planetary lord! The grate commissar Yarrick, following his defeat by Gaz Ghoul Thrakka, That Villainous  Ork overlord? The very same, Finding him self defeated he had to get rid of anyone who know. Sale was far quicker and easier. Basically a convoluted story of shame defeat and convenient retirement of our beloved Yarrick.

Why not be an army for hire to the tyrant of Badab?

Ive been busy this week and haven't had much time to paint. Instead of rushing to finish things ive decided to hash out my vets. This is what im thinking of going with but im on the fence with the camo. What do you think?
