Hi there,

So fist off appologies, i've not been very active on the forum for a while....and i blame my Gamer ADD.

To make up for it i'll post some of the completed units of my Army.

I have to give thanks to Brother Facman as he suggested we do a 2k list battle with some of our toys that we rarely field.

So for Show and tell today here is one of my HQ choices & an Elite choice.

Please note that i still need to complete the scroll work, Matt varnish and ard coat on lenses & Seals.

Thanks guys,

Yes there's a whole 2K list to do.

Next on the table is the 2 dreads & a Tac squad - although there's a bit cheating with the tac squad - its 95% done - i just need to bring it up to date with my current paint scheme & add the wear and tear.

After that - Ezekiel / PA Liberian & another Tac Squad, then a Devastator squad & predator, and finally a Fortress, 2 rhino's & a drop pod.

Will post some of the pictures later tonight as most of its painted - just needs updating.... And i'm not too happy with the fortress's look, so there will probably be soem major repaint there.

Don;t take too long, mate, the Guardians of the Covenant are waiting for their training session against the DA!! msn-wink.gif

That's right, 2000 points, Unforgiven-mano y Unforgiven-mano...... and the Dark Angels are taking the Fortress of Redemption.....

[EDIT - please forgive me if I burble... just spent the last 3 1/2 hours being taken to lunch by a sub-contractor..... 2 bottles of Rioja later..... I've got to pedal home in half an hour!!]

Very cool! My only criticism (constructive I swear!) would be a little more systematic weathering.  Consider this picture of ironman's suit as an example, notice how while there are scratches on the open surfaces of the armor, most of the major weathering is around the edges of exposed surfaces, and in larger amounts.  Also notice how a lot of the scratches are in the same direction (above the eye, right side of face (actual left).

They still look great close up which means on the table with their buddies they look awesome!  Keep it up.

Thanks SvenONE - critisism its appreciated.

In retrospect you are correct - it would look a lot more realistic, but i used the quick and 'dirty' sponge technique here and then just went back with some silver on a fine brush.

If i had to try that lvl of weathering i'd take way too long to finish a model (never mind an army!! - unless you have some short cuts!)

Below is my Dread that i finished off last night - hes been near completion for ages. - Again i sued the Quick and dirty sponge technique

If you did want to take Sven One's advice you can still sponge - just use keep it to the edges, dab lightly/use a little less paint. You keep the dirty effect but a little less so. Then just add a couple of longer "directional" scrape shapes in black with your brush. Then go in and do your silver.

I think your army looks great though. The only thing that I saw that would drive me bonkers is that all of your bases are edged in black, and then you have brown streaks from when you did the tops of the bases. Is it sad that's on of the first things I noticed about your Librarian? I'm totally OCD about that sort of thing. Haha. Hitting the rim of all your bases with black when you're all done with each model will make them sharper looking. Its like a poster with a nice frame as opposed to being taped to the wall. It'll add a bit of polish to an already sharp looking army.

Very nice looking squad and the dread is great as well, never would have thought a red power weapon and red storm bolters would go well together but you pulled it off with that Deathwing sergeant, very nice.

The damage from what I can see is really good, I use the same technique for my vehicles and armour in my army.

Great stuff!

DR

Very nice models there and the weathering on the dread is particularly good. You've got a good, distinctive red there too, which is impressive. I do think you could do a little more with the eyes of the terminators, perhaps adding a gem effect to really make them pop and draw attention to the head of the miniature. As it's the same shade of red as the weapons, the face doesn't get quite the emphasis it needs.

Just my opinion, of course. :)

@Xnickbaranx - Thanks - i'll try that on the next squad! as for the bases - wallbash.gif AAARRGGGHHH! i got so caught up with the painting i forgot about the cleaning!! thanks for pointing that out!!

@Gillyfish - Thank you - the red is quite a few layers of thinned (old) GW Blood red - does end up with a 'chalky effect' As for the lenses - i'll have to hit the edge with a brighter yellow then - seems the orange is not working then. hopefully the ard'coat will bring that gleam out.

Thanks for all the comments - and my appologies - i'm so caught up in getting this army finished that i'm not paying attention to the 'cleaning up' steps!

Consider me chastised!

Don't feel bad about forgetting the 'clean up stage'.  You've brought your models a lot further than most people I've played with.  Those dreadnought feet are a great touch!

I'd be a total liar if I said I always brought my models to 100% completion before fielding them.

I give all my models an "arms length" test, if at arms length it looks good, then it's done for now.  Once a month I have all of my Unforgiven fall in for a chapter inspection.  I keep a spreadsheet of who needs what and try and keep myself honest with getting them all ship shape (there's on particular group of scouts who keeps getting off the hook).

It's our duty to the Emperor that demands the very best!!

Goodness me sir that is what I call good organisation :tu:.

Cheers

Hi all, okay back after a week's holiday & back in the painting saddle.

I've started retouching my tac squads. To bring them inline with my current painting skill.

This is how my army use to look.

http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa368/Damion38x/Dark%20Angels/307CA03F-CE02-4512-80A8-4F5C59837AC8-564-000000BDCC5C0A17_zps9566c919.jpg

This is where I'm going with them:

All I've added so far is another shade of green and a line highlight. Still need a wash, damage and the protective coat

Below is the squad half done

Nice to see I'm not the only neurotic person with a spreadsheet for miniatures. smile.png

Heh! You haven't seen my "Stuff to Paint" spreadsheet. Its got multiple tabs, everything separated out into different factions, game systems, terrain etc. It even has graphs charting monthly progress by faction (colour coded of course) and overall progress against my target. Currently, I hope to have finished painting everything I own in September 2015, and I am 2 months ahead of schedule at the moment! whistlingW.gif

Edit - forgot to say that I created the spreadsheet in October 2012, and have successfully and religiously updated it for the past year smile.png
