Scout cluster mines query

When we look at area terrain, we're looking at woods, ruins, anything that has a base on it. These are valid targets for cluster bones. Fortifications have different rules to area terrain, and are not classified as area terrain. Therefore, you cannot place cluster mines in them.

No they all have a terrain type, area terrain is anything with a define boundary (eg not open), an as a minimum count as difficult.

Area terrain - for the clarity of the game, it is important to be able to tell where the boundary of the terrain feature is. This is where we need to introduce the concept of "area terrain".

So everything with a boundary is area terrain as a minimum, but can then be classified as something more with more special rule ( eg building or forest).

Since a ADL classed as battlefield debris (defence line) and must be connected then it would be classed as area terrain, an can be booby trapped.

Not unless its got a base that also provides cover it isnt. Battlefield debris doesnt mandate area terrain.

Pg. 91.  Bottom paragraph, left panel.  "Area terrain is always difficult terrain.  Models in area terrain receive a 5+ cover save, regardless of whether they are 25% obscured.  etc etc.."

The ADL, while you can make it a circle and define an "Area", is not dangerous terrain inside of that circle.  Buildings, the Skyshield, and Ruins all do not meet the qualifications to be Area Terrain.

I've met some people who were "smart" enough to place ADL along the border of a wood, to get a 4+ against shots and a 5+ against barrages landing behind them (and to help prevent DS from getting at them too easily). Would be fun to turn cluster mines of such a set-up.
