A Very Rogue Trader Battle Report

As I promised, I took Shadow Captain Shrike+Death Company to a tournament. To keep it in flavour, I even minimize scoring unit to bare minimum (I had no choice but to take scouts or a tactical to access shrike - I could only have done a null-scoring as pure BA.)

Expectations : I was not really Expecting to win some games, perhaps play for ties while I troll my opponents.

 

Setup: the tournament ran a deck of cards which which players drew advantages and disadvantages. some Activated Kill points, some activated Heavy as scoring, etc... These were going to prove very useful and allow me to score Victory Points.

 

Result : 2-1, having to forfeit the last game due to the tournament being poorly run and just taking too long - I had a dinner to attend. That game was far from in the bag for me, but it was winnable. I still ended up playing for all the marbles with this list!

 

The only sad thing is that my phone died on me before I was able to get pictures, I forgot to charge it after driving 6 hours on a sleepless overnight.

Game 1 VS grey knights

He had :

Grand master

Terminator librarian

10 terminators

10 PAGK

Razorback with TL-AS

Dreadknight+jump

Dreadknight

Vindicare Assassin.

Naturally, he rolled a 6 for grand strategy, so ALL OF THE THINGS decome scoring.

Map: a barren map with snaking lava rivers ( impassable). Notable : there is an island covered in ruins off center to the left. This means it's surrounded with lava.

 

Deployment: I win the roll off and pick bottom left corner. ( diagonal map split). We get 3 objectives this game. I noticed he only had 1 dreadknight with jump, and could only deepstrike to get on that island. So I put the first and third objectives on opposites sides of the island. He put the second in area terrain just on the edge of his deployment zone center left.

 

I win the roll off for again and let him go first. He deploys the PAGK and razorback on his objective , the jump dreadknight overlooking the island from inside his deployment zone. The Assassin deploys flanking the island in the top left corner. Everything else is in reserves.

 

I deploy Mephiston on the corner of the island in my deployment zone. A hold out my tactical in corner of my deployment zone. I infiltrate shrike and the DC fanned out on the island.

 

My cards :

+1 VP per succesful charge. -1 VP per failed charge.

Units that reach an enemy table edge can leave the board for +1 VP.

I can choose to negate first blood and slay the warlord

 

His cards:

+1 to reserve rolls

The warlord and his unit are immune to offensive psychic powers.

+1 VP for each challenge issued by the warlord.

Grey knight turn 1

Mouvement phase

The dreadknight walks up to the lava river and is poised to unleash pain on the death company. The PAGK take over the objective near his deployment zone with razorback support. Vindicare stays put.

 

Shooting

The vindicare takes a shot at Mephiston, failing to wound the lord of death. The dreadknight fires both his weapons at the DC reaping 3 kills.

 

Blood Angel turn 1

Mouvement

Mephiston jumps forward to the center of the island. The death company surge forward and fan out the infernus pistols to take shots at the dreadknight. My bold 5 man tactical starts jogging towards the PAGK held objective, still a good 36 inces away. The fragioso arrives on top of the combat squaded PAGKs.

 

Shooting

The combine might of the infernus pistols, bolt pistols and mephistons trusty plasma pistol dropbthe dreadknight to 1 wound. The fragioso lines up and hits all 5 PAGKs from the first combat squad and claims first blood. The snapfiring righteous fury of my utherly deadly drop pod storm bolter takes a hullpoint from the razorback's rear.

 

Grey Knight turn 2

Mouvement phase

Both dreadknight and terminator deathstar arrive from reserve thanks to his +1. I purposefully left a small gap in my coverage of the island, and he took the bait by trying to deploy his deathstar there. He ends up scattering on a grinning Mephiston, and end up lettung deploy them where I want. I place them top left behind a lava river they cannot cross. The dreadknight arrives half way inbetween the island and the second objective. The crippled dreadknight backs off.

 

Shooting

The wounded dreadknight and his healthy twin miss with the large templates, and kill another 4 DC with the torrents. Vindicator misses mephiston. The survivig PAGK combat squad tries to dent the fragioso and fall short. Same happens with the razorback aiming at my drop pod.

 

Blood Angel turn 2

The storm raven arrives with Mr Pinchy in tow, facing the wounded dreadknight. The Death company having to more reason to stay on the island fallback towards the second objective. Mephiston leaps out of cover towards his would be assassin. The fragioso lines himself to shoot the razorback and clip the PAGK. My tactical double times towards then second objective

 

Shooting

The storm raven unleashes it's blood strike payload and multi melta at the wounded dreadknight, and proceeds to rolling snake eyes to wound with the blood strike missiles and a casual cover save for the multi melta. I had declared PotMS with the AC on the terminators and felled teo. The fragioso takes a hulpoint from the razorback and kills a PAGK. Mephiston taunts the vindicare assassin by rolling a 1 to hit and wounding himself.

 

Assault

Mephiston successfully assaults the assassin, awarding me 1 VP. The Fragioso assaults the razorback awarding me another VP. Mephiston both assaults are won.

 

Grey knight turn 3

Mouvement

The terminator death star desperately stars running aroud the riverbend. The wounded dreadknight jumps onto the island. The healthy dreadknight moves to counter my fragioso. The PAGK hang for dear life into the second objective.

 

Shooting

The wound dreadknighy fires at mephiston and fails to damage. The PAGK snapfire at the storm raven and fail.

 

Assault

The healthy dreadknight assault and cleaves my frag dread in twain.

 

Blood Angel turn 3

Mouvement

The storm raven leaves the table by my opponents edge and scores a VP. Mephiston moves back towards the island. The DC end up about 10 inches away from the PAGKs 6 from the dreadknight. My tactical is still gunning for the second objective almost 13 inches away after the run.

 

Shooting

Mephiston pistol whips the dreadknight dead. The DC fail to dent the dreadknight having lost all their infernus pistols earlier. My tactical bolter fair no better against the PAGKs

 

Assault

The death company charge the dreadknight, stomping gim ti the ground with some good old fashion power fisting. He killed Lemartes before being dragged down. Another VP for the charge.

 

Grey Knight conceed the game.

PAGK are the troop choice. They do not have it. Each map has funky special rules. It was up to him not to try to deepstrike there, he could of deployed near the island and shoot me to bits. He got greedy thinking I would not be able to score ;)

I'm 99% sure regular troop strike squads have warp quake as well :O but yeah whatever. The special table rules sound like great fun that's for sure! Looking forward to the next one ;)

Game 2 VS Daemons
He had:
Kairos Fateweaver
3 Heralds of Tzeentch
3 12 man Pink horror units
2 10 man bloodletter units
2 3 man flamer units
10 flesh hounds
1 Burning chariot
1 soulgrinder with Phlegm Bombardment
1 soulgrinder with Baleflamer

Lots of scoring troops and templates to make life a living nightmare for me there.

Map: LOS blocking houses in each corner, ruins in the middle. the map had 6 numbered crystals. At the start of the mouvement phase, any unit in B2B contact with a crystal could attempt to teleport. Roll a D6 and teleport to the numbered crystal corresponding. If you rolled the same number as your current location, Deepstrike mishap.

Deployment: Classic Pitched Battle on long edges. My opponent wins the roll off and picks his side (the map is virtually mirrored). We get 6 objectives this time. We end up with one dead center of the map, 3 running down a line at 12, 24 and 36 inches 12 inches from the right table edge, one dead center on his deployment line and one in front of the house in my left corner.

I win the roll off and let him go fist. My idea with the objective placement was to force to stretch his initial forces thin to cover them and use my reserve power/ infiltrate to collapse a flank. He ended up with Pink horrors with herald and Kairos down the left flank, both soul grinders, flesh hounds and the chariot mid field, and 2 units of pink horrors with heralds on the right flank. Rest in reserves.

I hid mephiston and the tactical in behind the left corner house, and my DC behind the right corner house. These would guarantee to nullify his first and mostly second turn of shooting, while letting be position the Fragioso properly to disrupt his lines. Rest in reserves

He started the game by negating the scoring capability of my storm raven with his card.

 

Daemon Turn 1

Mouvement

Kairos Flies Directly on top of the house that was blocking LoS to Mephiston, with the Pack of Pink Horrors advancing to support. The Phlegm Soul Grinder wheels to the left towards mephiston. The Bale Soulgrinder Wheel right and heads midfield. The chariot goes in a strait line towards the death company who are camping behind the house. The flesh hounds head for the middle. Both Pink horror units of the right side stay put.
 

Shooting

As Kairos attempted to blast Mephiston with Sorcerous Shenanigans, I revealed my trump card, which promptly set my opponent in a fit of rage. No other shooting take place.

 

Blood Angel turn 1

Mouvement

Mephiston Activates Wings, suffers a snakes eyes miscast and a wound. With Kairos still in flight and no storm raven to Attempt grounding him, I fly Mephiston over the house and set to charge the pink horrors. My drop pod arrives, and I place it just behind the Pink horrors on the right flank, looking to reap a terrible death tally. My Drop Pod scatters 11 inches in only direction that would make my model clip the board edge by a hair, So mishap and back into ongoing reserve. This hurt quite a bit. Without Fragioso dreadnought support, I have no choice but to stay put with the DC.

 

Shooting

No shooting whatsoever.

 

Assault

Mephiston manages an 8 inch charge into the pink horrors thanks to fleet and promptly issues a challenge to the Herald for a quick VP, which is declined. He kills 4 horrors and suffers nothing in return. They hold.

 

Daemon Turn 2

Mouvement

The Daemon portal is dropped, and scatters midboard next to the objective. Both units of flamers and Bloodletters arrive from reserves. He boldly deploys them in pairs on each side of the house where my DC are hidding, boxing them in. None of his units scattered. This does not bode well. Kairos makes a 90 degree turn and flies down my deployment zone toward my Death Company. The chariot is now in position to blow up whatever comes out from behind the house.  The Phlegm Soulgrinder get in position to charge mephiston, alongside the Fleshhounds. The Bale Soulgrinder reaches mid board, heading towards the DC. The Pink horrors on the right flank march forward. This are looking grim for the Death Company.

 

Shooting

both units of flamer blast away at the DC, causing 4 casualties. Kairos Buffs himself with biomancy, and his Witchfires fail only kill a single DC thanks to FnP. The Flamers cause my FnP to increase to 4+ having passed the Toughness test.

 

Assault

The Fleshhounds and Soulgrinder charge Mephiston - only the fleshhounds make it and barely. All I needed was to Kill 3 to prevent them from attacking. I rolled double 6s on The Sanguine sword, taking another wound and preventing me from causing instant death to the 2 wound hounds... I challenge again for another VP and it is refused. I end up going for the Pink horrors to thin their ranks (scoring units are bad!) and score another 3 kills. The hounds Inflict 8 wounds. I failled 3 2+ saves... Down goes Mephiston and with him First Blood+Slay the warlord.

 

Blood Angel Turn 2

Mouvement

The Storm Raven arrives in pursuit of Kairos Fateweaver. My only chance of survival comes with clearing bloodletters and flamers. My pod arrives and I drop the Fragioso right in front of the Bloodletters on my table edge behind the house, being able to angle my template to hit the flamers behind them as well.  My Death Company surge from behind the house to take on the blood letters on the north side. Shrike leaves the unit to take on the flamers paired with them. My tactical moves closer to the house in my left corner.

 

Shooting

The Storm raven Fires it's whole payload on Kairos dealing 6 wounds, All were either saved or FnP'd. The Fragioso Obliterated the Bloodletters and left a single flamer down to one wound. The drop pod snap fired at Kairos missing. The Death company shoot off on the bloodletters, killing 4. Shrike goes wide with his bolt pistol at the flamers

 

Assault

Shrike assaults the flamers, who deal 3 wounds. I Rolls 1,1,2 on armour saves - Shrike dies to overwatch... The DC charge the bloodletters, Lemartes Reaping a deadly toll of 4 kills. I lost 1 DC in the fight, wiped them out and fall back to the house for cover.

 

Daemon turn 3

Mouvement

The Daemonic Portal Spawns 2 daemons on the middle objective. the Flesh hounds turn around and head for the Left flank Both soulgrinder pivot to face thestormraven for a Skyfirefest. Both units of Pink horror advance to get LoS to the DC, only one seeing it's target. The Chariot pivots setting it's Daemonic blast on the rear of my Fragioso. Kairos Turns 90 Degrees and hovers near the DC. The surviving Pink horrors on the left flank move towards the objective.

 

Shooting

Kairos Miscasts a Puppet master and buffs himself with biomancy again. His Tzeentch fire fails to kill DC thanks to my 4+ FnP. The flamers turn around and burn away at my DC kill another model and wounding Lemartes who turns into the hulk. My FnP passes to 3+ after passing the thoughness test. Both Soul grinder unleash they S7 guns at the storm raven, causing 1 hull point of damage. The chariot explodes my Fragioso.

 

Blood Angel Turn 3

The Storm Raven goes to hover mode, Drops Mr Pinchy in front of the Pink horrors. It's time for RETRIBUTION. The Tactical comes out of hiding on the side of the house. the Death company leap from the side of their house and jump behind the second unit of Pink horrors.

 

Shooting

The Storm Raven PotMS his multi melta at the Bale Soulgrinder and fires the rest at the chariot. The Might of the Imperium is too much for them to bare and they promptly explode. The Tactical fires at the 2 daemons on the objective, taking them out. 

 

Assault 

Mr Pinchy charges the first unit of pink horrors and kills 6. the Dc Charge the other unit and kill 7 Both units stay locked in Combat, and my 3+/3++ FnP is too powerful at this point. Both units of daemon hold.

 

Daemon Turn 4
Mouvement

The last soulgrinder is coming around and is set to charge Mr Pinchy. The hounds come to flank the DC. The Daemon portal Spawns 2 horrors on the objective again Kairos makes a hard turn 90 degrees and flies behind the fleshhounds.

 

Shooting

All sorts of daemonic sorcery happens - TO NO EFFECT! The Daemonic winds finally end up being something other than 7, and still nothing happens. Kairos Buffs himself again.

 

Assault

The Fleshhounds fail by a inch thanks to clipping difficult terrain to get to my DC. Respite for the Blood Angels finally. The soul grinder Sends Mr Pinchy to the grave, but it was too late. The furious avatar of Pinchy Death finished off the pink horrors before Being sent to the grave (again). The DC finish off the other pink horror unit.

 

Blood Angel turn 4

Mouvement

Time gets called at 5 minutes into my turn, things get interesting! I would of not been able to win in the long run, but this was a game changer. The storm raven about faces and heads for the cripple unit that was holding the objective on the right mid board. My tactical Double times towards it Unafraid of the Phleg soulgrinder now. The DC Leap over the hounds and are grinding their gear towards Kairos.

 

shooting

I PotMS the Multi-Melta on Kairos and fire the rest of my armement at the crippled pink horrors with the Storm raven. The Multi-melta hits and does not wound, but he passes his grounding check with his reroll. I kill enough of the horrors to prevent them from convesting the objective. The Tactical runs in and I get 2 models within 3. Having nothing to lose, the DC fire away at Kairos with snapfires, Causing 3 hits and a wound. He passes the save, fails the grounding check.

 

Assault

The DC charge into the Grounded Kairos. Lemartes is playing Wack a mole at S8 on the charge and Kairos is finished off by my last surviving power fist. 

 

Result - 1 objective and slay the warlord each, so it's his first blood to my 2 VPs from Mephiston challenges Win for the BA.
