TDF
SM recruiting worlds are usually exempt from tithes, but I think a few of the more populous ones are able to raise guard regiments as well if they want to. But normally if the Chapter is creaming off most of the best warriors a planet produces then the guard regiments will be pretty substandard, and if they don't have to raise them then why bother? Deathwolf1805
This may seem like a silly notion, but Imperial planets speak different languages don't they, with high gothic and low gothic being the universal tongues. Does this mean that it would be acceptable for a space marine chapter to use non English titles such as Hochmeister. I accept that most don't, but could they? TDF
That's perfectly OK. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281253-the-marines-tuetonic/page/2/#findComment-3489367 Share on other sites
Deathwolf1805
Who normally commands a space marine space vessel? They are referred to as captain, but is that position or rank? Quozzo
Both. In all the novels ive read the captain was in charge of the ship and was not a SM, but answered to the SM. However lex comes to the conclusion that the commander of a SM vessel is a SM, possibly a techmarine. Its safe to say to can take it either way if you wish. Deathwolf1805
So it looks like he's a chapter serf, just like the crew of the vessels. I know they help keep the chapter running, but don't some of them act as sort of servants/ pages to the marines. Quozzo
It depends on your source, some are serfs, some are individuals, some are space marines.
