The Definitive Nightlord

Morning All!

A quick question for all the midnight clad faithful after a decently extensive forum search hasn't yielded much.

How do you go about painting the terror marks of your Nightlords? I've seen some pretty awesome ones on here ranging from skulls to daemonic faces to simpler "tribal" lines and bars. Mine are pretty uncomplicated so far, but I definitely want to improve.

My "recipe" is super simple, but it doesn't do much impressive.

1.) Block out a few lines with dryad bark.

2.) Devlan mud (still have a little stockpile! ^_^ )

3.) Screaming skull with a tiny bit of Bark still showing at the "tips" of the lines

4.) White Scar over that with a tiny bit of Skull still showing.

5.) Sepia wash over the outer half, leaving the White Scar closest to the center of the mark unmolested.

I've seen a *ton* of guides for painting lightning (which I'm getting halfway decent at) but nothing so far on marking helmets. Anything is certainly helpful, but extra super bonus points if you sent a link for a tut!

With the release of the Night Raptors and their crazy helms I think a fair few people will head in that direction. I'm keen to see what FW bring out for the terror squads however too.

My own idea to make something a bit different was to take skulls (providing I can find some that are roughly the same size as a marine helmet) and model them as helms by painting the eye sockets as lenses etc. Unless someone somewhere makes skull helms really well lol
