Shaving plastic emblems

Recommended Posts

Patience and a fresh blade on your hobby knife. Work in small cuts to get the bulk of the emblem off, then switch to the flat of the blade like you would for mould lines an smooth it out.

Seconded. Takes some practice, but when you get it down, it is a valuable skill in wargaming.

I can vouch on the importance of a fresh sharp knife and patience. My left middle finger has a small but permanent chunk missing after rushing the Razorback I was cutting from the sprues dry.png It hasn't seen battle yet, but the fether better do well after the flesh and blood offered up to Khorne! (Even though the vehicle is loyalist! laugh.png )

Start with the hobby knife, as has been mentioned a few times already teehee.gif I personally would never use a dremmel on plastic, but if you can make it work then go for it. My method is to use hobby-grade sandpaper, you can find some in a hobby store like Hobbytown USA or Hobby Lobby but GW doesn't make it. The sandpaper is specifically designed for plastic models, and the pack I get has 5 grains. A coarse grain you can grind down with and going down to a fine grain that basically polishes and makes for a perfectly smooth surface, you'll never notice it was altered. It also looks awesome on pewter models that I decided to strip the paint off a blade and just polish the blade with the fine sandpaper, makes for a nice shiny smooth silver with no paint needed.
