The Redemptus Templar, colors, heraldry, and story

Sheesh Mode

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, it's Sheeshmode back with another rendition of his homebrew'd spacemarine chapter, the (name being worked on) Redemptus Templar. Now for anyone (mostly everyone) who doesn't know who these guys are, let me lay it down for you:

Reason for founding (I was tempted to say crusade, but went with counter instead)

They were founded in the 31st millenium (No evidence)

They area fleet based chapter (5ships)

Their combat doctrine is Cleanse and Purify

They are threatened with extinction

They use Shock and Awe tactics (When possible), sternguard have different operating perameters

They are 'friends' with a radical inquisitor

They have a common mutation that gives them disturbing voices (bahaha!)

Have a unique mutation in their geneseed which causes the organ to collect strong memories; particular moments that were notably stressful or enjoyable. This is occasionally expresses itself in the form of 'visions' and De-ja-vu esque experiences. (Think General Patton and his visions of Alexander the Great.)

Figure of legend: MotF: He is one of the reasons the chapter still exists. (Fixed ships and made dreadnoughts) Dude got lost in the warp for some silly reason. Hopefully he'll be back.

They have NO homeworld what-so-ever (Fleet based)

They have unique orginization (Love dem scythes)

Combat Doctrine: "Multiple simultaneous and devestating defensive deep strikes"

Specialty restrictions: No assaultmarines. Ever.

Shiney toys(Specialty equipment): Rare Weaponry

They are enemies with: Greyknights and Chaos Space marines (Traitor Death Guard)

Here is a picture of their standard marine: img%5D

Here is a picture of their honor guard/capteen

And finally here are is the paint scheme for the Wayfinders(Librarians)

So fluff time.

The Redemptus Templar are a loyalist successor of the infamous Death Guard, created to counter the Plauge Marines endurance and chemical warfare. Records of their creation were eliminated in order to protect the positions of the High Lords and maintain the face of the Imperium. As a result the Templar are regarded as a dangerous and elusive renegade chapter, yet another on the long list of Imperial enemies. They fly around the Maelstrom attacking pirates and chaos warbands while searching for a way to finally kill Mortarion or possibly imprison him. Ironically, the Greyknights pursue the Redeemers Templar for the death of their first Chaptermaster, forcing the beleagured chapter to stay on the move or be exterminated by the vengeful Greyknights.

That's all for now. I'm exauhsted and shouldn't have stayed up this late. *shrugs* oh well tell me what you think. Rage, love, disinterested. It all helps me expand my idea.

Intriguing so far, I really want to see one painted, I am interested in seeing those different shades of red, blue and green completed. I like that you added your own touch to the Librarians too, and being descendants of the Traitor Legion Death Guard, then throw everyone off the trail with Templar in the name lol. I like it.

So, it isn't unheard of for a chapter, or fragment, to still be loyal but considered traitor or renegade, but some questions to hopefully help you out are:

Do they still hold loyalty to the Emperor, the Empire, both, or are they just looking for revenge or to clear their namesake?

Is there a reason why no Assault Marines ever?

Any more on their Inquisitor Friend, would he be the reason why there isn't a larger Inquisitorial force after them?

Any word on relations with other Marine Chapters, or did you figure they have had limited to no interaction in the areas they hang around?

1. They are still loyal to the Emperor, but not the Empire, the chapter believes it is being punished for the sins of its legion during the Heresy.

2. (Other than that I don't like assault marines in a vanilla army...) well actually, yes, because their primary tactics are either a ridiculous shock and awe assault (Dreadnoughts in droppods) or skirmish teams of sternguard, assault marines simply do not work well with their tactics. They are both too weak to participate in the primary assaults and too loud to be useful alongside the sternguard.

3. The radical inquisitor supplies the chapter with information on their targets and the troop movements of the Ordo Mallaus. He also siphons small quantities of Inquisitorial equipment (Nemesis weapons and special ammunition) to the Templar in exchange for near subservience. He himself has a token force of stormtroopers attempting to 'locate' the Redeemer Templars fleet so as to distance himself from the chapter and maintain the illusion of his 'purity'.

4. By and large loyalists hate the Redeemer Templar, they veiw them as yet another group of traitors insulting the honor of the Adeptus Astartes with their stolen specialist weaponry. The only 'friends' they have are some spacewolves who they managed to save from an Alpha legion ambush.

The Redeemer Templar accept their position as Excommunicae Traitoris and avoid loyalist forces wherever possible. They do not recognize the Imperium as a true authority because it is radically different from the Emperors vision of a unified humanity. However, they acknowledge the current situation and view loyal humans as a dangerous charge. To be protected when possible and avoided otherwise.

A big part of the Redeemer Templar 'religion' revolves around their unique mutation in the chapter geneseed. About fifty or so marines in active service carry seed from the Chapters founding and bear a variety of memories from their deceased predacessors. Typically marines will have dreams of locations that the marines have never personally traveled as the cornucopia of memory seeps through their unconscious mind.

On rare occasions marines will have waking flashbacks to their previous lives, especially when the fleet revisits certain systems and planets. In its most severe cases, the marines personality will change as the combined thoughts and demeanor of their predecessors are grafted to their psychology. sometimes even changing their name and voices.

As a result of this marines view the prognoid glands as the physical manifestation of the marines soul and are therefore named after their first bearer. To the Templar, these visions are trace examples of the astartes true self, which - given time - will culminate into a Prodigal: the final stage of a marines reincarnation.

Prodigals hold positions of reverence and fear within the Templar culture. As the 'final stage' in the spiritual and psychological metamorphosis of the marine they embody the purity of the Redeemer Templar and their chapters purpose. As an amalgamation of disjointed thought, ability and skill the are dangerous and erratic and thus avoided outside of combat. The mish-mash of collected thought can put a heavy strain on the marines sanity.

Hence the existence of the Wayfinders(farers?), Chapter psychics who soothe and focus the chaotic minds of their 'aged' brethren. Due to their psychic potential and the dangers of the warp, Wayfinders rarely become prodigals, it is considered too dangerous to place that much stress on a single mind, even an Astartes. This makes Wayfinders an ideal candidate to sooth and guide their tormented brothers because of their relative sanity and psychic ability.

However, navigating a Prodigals mind is dangerous, the un-initiated are easily lost in the twisted corridors of a Prodigals mind. The generations of memories creating a unique labyrinth within their unconscious. As a result, Lexicanium are forbidden to read the minds of a Prodigal lest the lose themselves within, only those with sufficient psychic experience and will may be deemed capable of such a task.

I'm still painting figures, however, I need some suggestions on what kind of camera to use. I have an SCH-I110 Verizon Samsung, the cameras resolution is insufficient and does not capture the details of my 28mm plastic men.

More to come. Tell me what you think!

Still waiting on some suggestions for a good camera. I am painting my army now and would like to show the results.

Sorry, I've honestly been just using my phone camera, its a Galaxy S3 so it has a nice one. You don't have to spend an exuberant amount for a decent camera. Just shop around, a know (because I work at one) Radioshack is having a big clearance event, there are several nice cameras that corporate apparently wants to get rid of so they've been clearanced down in price. One thing to check for is megapixels, more is better. So you have a starting point, your phone is apx 3.5 Megapixels. Other than megapixels the only real variances in cameras are various zooms, some are digital zoom only not optical, and just extra features and effects.

I'll ask my fiance what camera she uses to take photos of my models, but keep in mind I won't get a response from her until probably this evening since she's at work.  Here's a link to my wip thread so you can see the quality of the pictures that come out of it-

It's a good camera, even a complete novice in photography like myself learned to use the various settings on it pretty easily, (I took the batch of photos on the last page)

++Edit++ She managed to sneak in a text during her lunch hour- it's a canon digital rebel xti (which she tells me is an older model) with a canon series macro lens- the lens is the important bit she adds.  Hope that helps!
