Hello all,

Taken a while but finally finished (more or less, am thinking about getting some weathering powder to try out on the lower legs) the first squad for my Marines Adamant. (fluff here)

I like the colour scheme and the 'feel' of these guys a lot! They seem pretty distinct from the Sons of Medusa which was my first worry when I saw the green, but there's no risk of confusion from my POV.

One thing I will say is that in some places you've done a really fantastic job (e.g. some of the weathering is amazing) but in some places there are one or two minor mishaps which detract a lot from the overall feel of the model - the marine with the Chaos Warrior head is exemplary of this as his eyes look a little bit too daubed on.

I'm really keen to see where you take this next however, the idea of feral Hands successors is one which appeals to me a lot.

Thanks for the feedback, Arkhan! Yeah, you're not wrong that there are a few areas where it probably needs more tidying up, photos always seem to highlight things that don't look as bad with the naked eye. confused.gif

Some of the weathering has come out a bit over the top too, although it is my first go at it.

I'd like to go back over it and get rid of some of the messier chips (maybe thin some of the highlights?) but the trouble is that the green is layered with an airbrush, then washed to tone it back down/tie the shades together and I'm not sure if I can redo those little bits without making the green look patchy? If anyone has any ideas, I'd be eager to hear them?

The solution to the highlighting/weathering problem I'm using at the moment is to simply use a shade of the base colour (green, in your case) as close to the original as possible - you end up with a 'three-tone' chipping effect that's fairly pleasing and quite 3D. I'll try and upload some pictures if I can, seems to be easier to swim to the moon than update my log these days it seems.

Thanks Arkhan, good point, made me realize the chips effect was being spoiled because the 'inner' colour was too light (why it looked better on the white than the green). Have darkened it and think it looks much better?

Also, got a Tamiya weathering stick (Sand) and added some to lower legs, quite happy with how it's come out.

Thanks dssgt7!

Finally another squad finished, been a funny old winter for getting stuff painted! Several units built though, including 3rd Tac/GH unit with TDA leader, a Dev/LF unit, an Ironclad Dread and a Dark Talon (storm talon counts-as).

Anyway, second unit is Squad Einskaldir, more CC oriented and will (eventually) run with my Warleader in a LRC. Pics!

and finally Hearthguard Einskaldir, who likes long walks and eating tanks for breakfasttongue.png

Nice work dude. As mentioned, the freehand work is great! I really like these guys. The only (minor) constructive critique I'm compelled to make is one or two eye lenses need a tiny bit of touching up (a brush slipped here or there) - it's a minor point but stands out against a dark colour scheme. Other than that I really like these guys. Any vehicles in the works? :)

Thanks for all the comments guys!

@Isiah: Thanks, I figured with both bionic bits and pelts/teeth/other 'wild' stuff, I'd better keep the colour scheme fairly simple!

@Arkhan: No worries, mate, you're not wrong. Funny how stuff shows up in the pics that you don't notice otherwise, next time I get paints out I'll touch up around the eyes.

As to vehicles, I've got an Ironclad built and undercoated green, plus a Storm Talon in the same state (it's actually a DA Dark Talon/Nephilim as I like the model so much better, but built it with none of the flying cathedral rubbish and just the under wing missiles and nose cannon to represent Skyhammer and TL AssCan).

Next job will be to get the airbrush out to start doing the xenithal(sp?) highlights on both vehicles.

Next up, an Ironclad Dreadnought with PF/CF 2xHF, will be bought a Pod to buzz in first turn, torch some stuff, and hopefully survive for a while to distract from the LRC heading for enemy lines!

Red paint job on the fist is to reference a character mentioned in the second sidebar of the IA, not quite as dead as the rest of the Chapter thought!

C+C always wanted, thanks for looking!

Thats an awesome looking army you are putting together matey, I especially like the sense of movement you have got with your posing, very aggressive looking marines, just like it should be !

Keep up the good work dude :)

Thanks for all the comments guys, very much appreciated and glad you're enjoying the army coming together!

Next up, a StormTalon variant from the Gharant forges called the Iron Talon (I hate the ST, but I like the DA Nephilim without the flying cathedral bits!) equipped with SkyhammerML and twin-AssCan.

Keen to see what you do with the HQ for this army!

As if by magic (and only a month later thanks to the ETL!):

I just wanted to say that I am always a fan of your work brother. Since back In your Emperors Blades (I think they were called) days I have always been a huge fan. And whilst I must say I think your Iron Gods were my favourite of all your armies these guys are up there too. Tell me, is that custom converted bionics on Isgrimnurs sword arm? You are going to have to commit these guys to that campaign write up thingy I was planning.

Thanks bud! Yeah, custom bionics, quite easily done, just hollow out one side of the arm and stick in a few lengths of plastic rod or wire of differing thickness. Did the top half of his right leg too but it's hard to see in the above pic!
