Surrender_Monkey
One of the projects I am working on is a feast of blades themed honour guard. It's mostly an excuse to paint a bunch of different colour schemes and still field them. One of the chapters in the feast of blades are the Excoriators: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130913215752/warhammer40k/images/7/7f/Exoriators_Colour_Scheme.jpg Their colourscheme is described as "Ivory" and the pictures I have seen show them not quite as white as white scars, but not full on bone like the deathwing. I really like this look, but I'm not sure how to go about recreating it on a model, any tips? skawolf
Use rakarth flesh as a base color, wash with a light was of Agrax earthshade and then highlight with rakarth flesh once more. You can do a final highlight of white to pick out the sharpest details as a finishing touch. (this advice is based upon the fact that I was told that rakarth flesh most closely approximates the color of the old citadel foundation "deneb stone".... If you have deneb stone, use that instead.) Edit: Was this info that I got about Rakarth flesh correct? I swooped up 5 bottles of deneb stone when the paint line changed (base color for my tau) so I haven't had to deal with finding a replacement color yet. Donar Vadderung
There's a vallejo colour called 'Off White' that works particularly well for this kind of thing, especially if you are able to airbrush it over a base colour like grey. facmanpob
It's like this thread was made for me! I've been looking for the right colour for some pre-heresy First Legion robes, and I think the Vallejo off white is perfect for what I want to achieve! Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281584-painting-ivorynot-quite-white/#findComment-3489139 Share on other sites
Surrender_Monkey
Thanks for the advice guys. I'm probably going to try Skawolf's method since I have all the paints already and it's only one model. According to this paint guide Dheneb Stone = Rakarth Flesh. I will probably pick up some Vallejo off white too (I've been meaning to order a couple of vallejo paints) I don't have an airbrush but it's always useful to have that extra colour, for example I recently started using some purple wash that I got in the 90s and IIRC never even opened till the other day.
