Olgerth Istaarn
For some reason, the original thread I posted on the subject has disappeared and then reappeared again. Too late for this post. This is the original with a large-scale picture of the first build: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281259-centurions-a-minimalist-conversion/ I bought a box of centurions, admittedly against my better judgment, as a personal challenge: make them look at least less stupid. The first build was a bit of a nightmare, but once I figured out what to do, the remaining two came together nicely. The task at hand was: - Make all weapons magnetized. - Make the centurions look like they can walk and fight without tipping over. - Address annoying design deficiencies, like the "grandma what big teeth you have" helmets and power mittens. What I did: - Cut off the side toes (pretty much a given). - Cut up the groin plate, and instead of the whole thing, just used one of the thigh plates. I had to put a generous blob of green stuff behind it to attach the plate to the codpiece of the power armor. - Replaced the helmets with Ravenwing Techmarine helmets. These have meaner countenance, and a big viewfinder/targeter on the side. Plus, it would make sense that techmarines would drive the big brutes into battle. - Replaced power mittens with cut and fitted powerfists and lightning claws from stock terminator kit and cataphracti kit. Asymmetry is cool, so I gave each centurion a powerfist and a trimmed lightning claw fist which looks like big brass knux. - Magnetized all weapons except meltaguns on the siege drills and chest missile launchers. Because even I'm not OCD enough for that. - Ditched the power cables, because we don't need grots sneaking up behind us and snipping them with giant scissors. And because they made magnetization a nightmare. Here is the mostly-finished product. I might throw a little bling on them here and there, but by and large they are done. Here are all three with devastator weapons: http://i42.tinypic.com/2it1ogx.jpg Rear View: http://i43.tinypic.com/wsqkcj.jpg Magnets in the arms: http://i40.tinypic.com/14o6eef.jpg All magnetized weapons: http://i43.tinypic.com/ejep76.jpg All in all I'm happy with how they turned out. The conversions are really minimalist and they preserve and improve the original artistic idea. I can see these guys marching into battle alongside my tacticals. And yes, green stuff work looks quite rough, but it is completely covered when the weapons are mounted... so nobody needs to know. Olgerth Istaarn
Thanks. I wonder what I'll do if I decide to build any more. Apparently Ravenwing Techmarines heads aren't available any longer. Hm. I feel like I made and ate a steak out of the last unicorn. Reyner
They look better than the stock ones, nicely done. Thanks. I wonder what I'll do if I decide to build any more. Storm Talons and Storm Raven pilots have the same head just without the little dark angels icon on the faceplate.
