Boom Stick
I recently played a game against a vehicle heavy necron list. He took the shielding that made his stuff av13 unil it was penned and a monolith at av14. I knew he was bringing flyers that i had no counter to, but the amount of high av he had gave me fits. Does anyone else run into this? Any good suggestions on dealing with this?
BrotherCaptainArkhan
You know, Blood Angels have an insane amount of ways to get melta weaponry onto the table, within 6"/12" of enemy armour. Just saying. Assault squads with meltas, Dreadnoughts of any variety, Sternguard off the top of my head.
Brother Maxwell
Annoying eh? I verse necron lists all the time ><; For anti armor, I use the storm raven and multi melta attack bikes. Out of all my games I find the storm raven doesn't perform well against anti armor (The dice gods hate me) but there were moments where it has brought me to victory from a desperate situation. The multi melta bikes I run with 2 multi meltas in a squad, I usually add another attack bike for the body count and in higher point matches upgrade that to a multi melta as well. I try to have two squads of attack bikes. My storm raven loadout is the standard asssault cannon, multi melta setup with hurricane bolters. I find the ones with the shielding aren't too bad if you can get behind, because the shielding only affects the front and side armors. Depends on the list you use and how they've deployed their units, but i've done funny stuff with a a descent of angel blood lance librarian haha. However, my descent of angels list usually doesn't win against necrons, I hate their wraiths.
Boom Stick
I only play vs the same two people and the one i play the most is a necron player. I have stopped bringing any sort of vehicle due to the amount of gauss he lays down. Decent of angels lists are alright against him but to counter this he has stopped taking reserves so he can pound on me first turn with everything he has. I am limited on my models. Would 3 5 man dev squads and melta bikes do alright? I just seems like when I load up on stuff to take out his vehicles it lets his troops just walk all over me. JamesI
Multimelta attack bikes are my favorite anti-tank. Or Dante attached to a unit with 3-4 meltaguns in it to deepstrike with no scatter on it.
ChaosRising
I am just starting on the road to Necronhood myself, as well as simultaneously beginning work on Dark Angels 1st-3rd Companies (mostly 3rd right now), so I am looking into some of these issues myself as I collect and build. More often than not, Necrons can, and will, rip you to shreds from a distance. From what I have heard (and from my only game to-date fielding them), you want to force them into close combat ASAP. I found this out the hard way when 12 hormagaunts shredded my 8 warriors...not a pretty sight. I suppose if you wanted to go shooty you might want to take a higher-than-normal amount of anything with blast damage, but especially plasma cannons, missile launchers (normal and and cyclone especially), and flamers (good for blast damage just before you perform the obligatory charge). I might also consider a vindicator, given the power of its gun, combined with the fact that the gun does blast template damage. Just some ideas, though. Kanis
I'm quite interested in this thread as a friend of mine recently sprung a whole Necron army on me, and I've got to fight it soon. Not sure how to deal with so many AV13 skimmers at once myself, as I have no biker units as I see are so popular and useful. :/
Boom Stick
The problem I ran into that made me start this thread was that my opponent had so many av 13 skimmers that I just could not reliably take them out fast enough. He would focus on what little I had on the board that could get his vehicles. Is there a set of units that could allow me to take on several targets at once? ChaosRising
Original Land Raider? You'd get two sets of lascannons for vehicle hunting. Or you could take a Predator Annihilator. That would give you a turret-mounted lascannon, plus two sponson-mounted lascannons
JamesI
Stormravens can take on 2 units at once.
skawolf
Combi-melta sterns in a drop pod for one... they can take out vehicles like nothing and will shred infantry to bits with special issue ammo.
redhorse
What also works really, really well are our vanguard. They can be insanely good at taking out vehicles. Take a squad of five, give them all jump packs(which of course is code for jump packs), give them four jump packs( which of course is code for melta bombs) and give the sergeant a power fist. Only, only use this unit to take out a vehicle or if you've already popped open a vehicle they can take out a weak unit( necron troops are wussies). Remember, our van guard, at the moment are able to assault out of deepstrike. Use them, seriously. This is such an underrated unit and underrated way to use them. Dyslexia strikes again! I totally meant melta bombs!

Blckbuster
4 of them can use the extra jump pack to attach to the vehicle in the assault phase and launch them off the table and into reserves on a 4+
Leonaides
I think he might have meant melta bombs?
Chaplain Admetus
With melta. Lots and lots of melta. Especially combat squads of assault marines - 5 guys, 2 meltaguns. Turn up on turn 2 on 3+ with a re-roll means they have an 8/9 chance of showing up. Only scatter 1d6 (if at all). Crons lack interceptor apart from things like quad guns, and you should be reasonably safe against that. The key thing about this sort of strategy (and drop pods coming in turn 2 or later, and mobile bikes etc.) is that quantum shielding doesn't work if you hit it in its rear armour. Take 'em from behind by using your mobility to get round them, or engage them in assault where you automatically strike their rear armour.
Zynk Kaladin
Take a squad of five, give them all jump packs, give them four jump packs and give the sergeant a power fist. First space marines inside another space marine and now this... don't give GW any ideas...
The Milkman Of Baal
Remember the rear isn't covered by the phase sheilding and all you have to do to remove it is to get one penetrating hit, so i tend to drop things like plasma behind and have mm bikes and speeders coming forward. mepheston eats warriors/immortals aswell. Just my two pence.
Calnus
Melta > vehicles. The key thing to remember against Necrons is target priority. because they have so many AV13 vehicles, you have to decide which ones need killing first. And they all have Jink, for a standard 5+ save (except the Monolith). I've personally found combat squad and Stormravens to work rather well. You drop the combat squads with dual melta (you do run 2 meltaguns in every ASM squad, right?) in front of two-three vehicles on a flank, and remove them. The other squad is either deployed or sits in a gunship for late game objective grab. If you're doing this kind of tactic, then his flyers become a weakness for him, since he can't use them to blast your weak first turn deployment. If he's not using flyers at all (in order to alpha strike you) then your gunships get free reign to molest his ground troops. Remember, he has short range. You can keep something mobile, like a Typhoon speeder, out of his range for at least a couple turns, and use it to finish off the weakened vehicles from your meltaguns. Since they go down to AV11 once getting penetrated, no matter what damage result you roll, then the missile launchers can drop them if the meltas fail to explode. Calnus
Also, Mephiston destroys everything in his codex, with the exception of characters using Mindshackle Scarabs. While he can be taken down by a Warscythe, he can usually kill the other guy first if he's not forced to smack himself in the face.
Daddywarcrimes
Never forget the humble assault cannon. A pair of Baal Predators can pretty handily get where they need to go to shred the exposed rears of Necron vehicles,. Combine multiple twin-linked assault cannons with the missiles and TL-multimeltas on Stormravens and you should be able to crack open damn near anything. Morticon
Ya, BA shouldnt have a problem here. Storm Ravens, MM attack bikers, drop dreads with MG, and Magna, Lascannon razors and then assault marines with Melta, and Vanguard too. We have melta available in so many unit options its a joke. Chaplain Admetus
I think, frankly, BA are probably the best marine variant when it comes to dropping heavy armour. Mech is probably one of our better matchups, as we can easily tool to beat it without making many compromises. I for one take melta in almost all my squads, with the exception being a 2x flamer assault squad (better than you'd think), and my bikes have a plasma gun. Boom Stick
Just to follow up, I played the same opponent tonight again. We got big guns never tire. I loaded up melta; 2 assault squads, 2 speeders, bike squad, and dread with melta. I ended up winning to game because neither of us ended up with an objective but I got first blood and killed 2 of his heavy supports. He got line breaker and killed one heavy of mine. When the game ended all I had on the table were two melta bikes with assault bike and DC Tyco with Lemeartes. With the help from here I did kill all his vehicles, except the flyer. So thanks for all the help getting me a win!
