I am searching for alternatives to this

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space-Marine-Support/SPACE_MARINE_AIR_DEFENCE_MISSILE_LAUNCHER.html

I think £21 is just way to much for a platform.... 63 quid for 3.... like really? Now i did find some smaller ones on another website 3 of them for 18 quid, however the scale is just to small.

Any one had luck on other sites or point me in the right direction.

Thanks

If your happy to wait an indefinite amount of time there is Quantum Gothic's Missile Launcher. There store has been closed for some time now (can always send them an email seeing if they have any stock available). Can see an example of it sitting on the back of a Chimera here.

Those are nice, but they just wouldnt look good with my space wolves. this comment was for the first post.

  9 Euros?

Those are not bad.. (closed hatch) ashame it has no dimensions.

You can easily make your own especially if you're on a budget. Use a 40mm base (TDA base), I think it best to either use sentinel missile launchers or storm talon missile launcher bits bought over from eBay. Put a center piece together with some odds and ends or wolf it up somehow. But those missile launcher bits would be your main bits to go with for sure.

I have an idea let me know what you guys think. typhoon missile launchers from landspeeder i cut that part which is lined in black. I make a square box  with plasti card,on a 40mm base then those missile bits should just fit on the edge of the plasi card edges. What you guys think.

Your welcome and yes that could also work. The only reason why I mentioned the sentinel missile launcher or storm talon bits were because they look more appropriate or to scale/menacing. I find the typhoon ones a bit small, unless that is what you are going for. I'd add a SW storm shield in the center, some pelts or wolf tooth necklace from the TWC bits to wolf it up a bit... keep us posted. Looking forward to what you come up with and good luck!

PS, welcome to the Fang!

ggot phase 1 done. Used 40mm bases made small rectangular boxes where my typhoon missiles will sit once arrived. Manage to get 3 typhoons set 2uk pounds each not bad. I will take a photo of each step once i get my work cammera. Also good idea sticking shields and other bits on the front and sides. will defo be doing that.

It should be the size of a turret on a Razorback

I looked into it buying whirlwind launchers is nearly as expensive as getting the hyperios! I ended up buying the hyperios launchers in the end. One thing worth mentioning is the tripod bases which comein bastion kits as you could base them on those so you can spin them around.

He is very true, i looked into buying the whirlwind launchers, that way i could use my razorbacks as whirlwinds as well!!! HOWEVER they are just as expensive as the fooking hyperios.... some where nearly as expensive as the tanks kit its self!

However some progress. So Maverick advised using 40mm bases, im glad i did it was a good size. I made a little square box with plasticard and i managed to find these little marbles which are flat on one side and oval on the other. This is perfect for a sensor on the front, and the shields and sigils can go on the other 3 sides. Pics to come shortly.

so i promised some pics... dont laugh!! tongue.png but my modeling skills are really really bad... im good at the painting but boy do i stuck at converting stuff!!. But i just saved my self £50 quid as this cost £10 to put together.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2rduiow.jpgfor someone who is really bad at making stuff up im fairly pleased how they turned out. look forward to painting these up!! and intercepting MOFO'S BOOOM!

Your feeling of accomplishment and pride out weights what other people will have to say, and I guess at the end of the day that's all that really matters when it comes to the Fang and the hobby altogether. YOU made something, saved up money and enjoyed doing it in the process. Congratulations! looking forward to seeing them painted.

Thanks ;) i wanted to like makee fur to go over the actual missile launchers.and hang of the sides with like a wing effect gusting the pelt up a bit!! from the gust of the missile shooting. However i am as good with green stuff then a pig is at flying.

You are the 2nd person to say that!! i wish i thought of that before i glued the missile launchers down!! but thanks for the comment i will try to sand off as much as i can to give the smooth surface.. other wise im going to have to go for the battered up look whistlingW.gif

Also....Don't Spray primer on them either...it will melt the plasticard right before your very eye's cry.gif

if you do want to spray em then i suggest priming "ALL" visible plasticard surfaces by hand before spraying.

And lastly ...they look great thumbsup.gif

cheers Mithril

you should be fine with just trimming off most of the greenstuff. i would also try to drill some small holes in them to represent rivets. these are shown on almost every imperial object, space marine machinery included. another interesting thing to possibly do is maybe see if you know someone that collects imperial guard, if so,ask him if he's got any spare lascannon batteries. these will look ace as powersupply units to your hyperios platforms, not to mention it will change the look of your boxes a lot as right now it seems their back is just a flat piece?

The back has more SW icon / shields / other stuff. I have one more thing to add to the back if i can fit it in. Those ammo boxes you get with your tanks, use one of them on the back of each base. And i have green stuffed some cables. Cable to go from the launchers to the box.

Glad you didn't spray sweat.gif its the propellant in most of the sprays that does it (especially GW's) if you undercoat the Plasticard with brush on paint feel free to go over the rest of it with spray afterwards.

yeah i agree cables power packs and tank gubbinz really make em look heaps better and less boxy.

look fwd to seeing paint on these bad boys devil.gif

cheers Mithril

i put the concern on facebook about the gw spray or army painter on platiicard. Everybody said it wont melt it!! so i tried it and it was fine :)

Ye i tried to fiddle around with it thinking how could i put this at a upward angle and still have it sit so nicely with out breaking. Couldn't make it work, so if any one asks me how the missile will shoot upwards!! if they are pointing forward!! the satellite on the platform guides them no matter what angle the missile are at :p thats my story!
