Rafen IX
Greetings brothers, I'd like to know your thoughts about running Dante with one of the above squads and your experiences and/or thoughts. Personally I've been considering both squads with a chapter banner and plasma gunning for the honour guard. Which do you think Dante would work best with, to give you some base work they would most likely be fielded versus tyranid, eldar and DA. Many thanks R Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281709-synergy-between-dante-sanguinary-guard-and-honour-guard/ Share on other sites
Calnus
If you're going to run plasmaguns on the Honor Guard, then you don't want a banner. If you run Dante with them, then you want combi-plasmas instead of full-up guns (to save 20pts) because you will never survive more than a turn after you drop, and only get one round of shooting. If you're running Sanguinary Guard at all, I think a basic unit with just the banner works best. The ICs you want attached to it are an Sanguinary priest and Librarian. Probably want 3-4 axes spread across those 7 models. Melta bombs on the priest, or *possibly* a Power Fist on one of the guards. Call it 3 swords, 3 axes and a fist and you should be set to cover the whole spectrum of melee threats. Probably get the best numbers off an axe for the Librarian (maximizes force weapon opportunities) and a sword on the priest (so you can challenge potentially threatening characters with an AP2 weapon). The big thing to remember is that each unit is used differently. Dante's HG plasma unit is used to suicide drop against a single MC/2+ save unit and then disrupt plans in the enemies backfield. The SG kill team is a more multi-purpose low-end deathstar, which is useful against most unit short of 2+ saves and MCs. Rafen IX
Lots to consider there. Very much along the lines I've been thinking. The honour guard benefit from the priest. The problems I see is almost handing your opponent 'Slay the Warlord.' They are primarily MC hunting in this capacity. So hopefully Dante with axe can finish off the beastie they land beside if they assault, then hit and run out of there. Thanks :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281709-synergy-between-dante-sanguinary-guard-and-honour-guard/#findComment-3491512 Share on other sites
Calnus
Dante dies to almost any MC on a failed 4+ (no eternal warrior, smash attacks at S10 instant-death him)... I would really rather not have him for MC hunting. To be honest, his precision deep strike isn't really necessarily for jump pack HG, as they have Descent of Angels and a 12" effective range. Put them 6" away from your target and even at max scatter they are still good to double-tap. The built-in priest is nice to have, but since you're using the HG to put plasma down, he's really not a factor. You were going to want another priest in your list if using more marines anyway, since you intend to have the HG deep strike.
