Kuchinawa
Hey B&C I got a question I'm a little afraid in admitting I don't even know how to use a paintbrush I bought. But they shall know no fear and all that. So I got a GW stipple brush. The bristles seem nice and sturdy and looks like it could withstand rougher techniques. But when I got home and tried it, it was so stiff it barely applied any paint, and even the little it did seemed like it just being scraped onto the surface. So maybe it's a drybrush only thing? Well I tried that and it seemed to be taking paint off then hitting the edges. Okay maybe it's JUST for stippling. So I begin to try a few light jabs but the bristles are so close together it just makes a lopsided splotch! Clearly I gotta be doing something wrong. Can one of you walk me through correct usage or link me to a video or something? Thank you so much in advance! ChaosRising
Here is the description from GW. Basically, they had weathering and other texturing effects in mind. However, stippling -as a form of painting - can be used for anything. Essentially it involves making tiny little dots on the canvas (or whatever surface) that collectively look like a a finished piece (almost like a jigsaw puzzle, but not quite). Hope that helps. Kuchinawa
yup the GW brush is the one I got! I dunno I just don't get that neat stippling effect when I tried to use it, I didn't know if there is a proper paint ratio or the bristles need to used in a certain way Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281737-im-a-little-embarrassed-to-be-asking-about-a-brush/#findComment-3492069 Share on other sites
ChaosRising
I can't help you there, since I don't even own a stipple brush. I usually just use a drybrush (size 1/0 I think) or something along the lines of a standard brush, that I can use to make tiny pin pricks of paint, or I can use for streaks and such (which I can smudge as needed). Just some thoughts. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281737-im-a-little-embarrassed-to-be-asking-about-a-brush/#findComment-3493342 Share on other sites
Lucien Eilam
You can't really use it for anything but stippling, and you need to break it in a bit before using it for that - it's designed for heavy abuse. Mash the bristles against your desk for a few minutes until they start to splay apart. Xenith
The stipple brush is like a cut down drybrush, it's not really good for anything other than dabbing paint in, in my opinion. facmanpob
I gave away my stipple brush as I found it much easier to use a corner of sponge....
