THE
FORGOTTEN

The story of Kales and
the Storm Eagles

Kales, one of the 12

Primarchs created by The Emperor of Mankind, awoke on a distant planet far from
the touch of earth, beyond the explored parts of the galaxy, like his brothers
his life pod had been snatched by the forces of chaos and flung into the warp,
to be scattered across the galaxy. Kales was found by a group of people, having
seen the bright light flash across the atmosphere of their planet and land,
they had set out to discover what had landed. The Planet was Ikathos, and was
home to the Shianto, descendants of humans that had left earth centauries ago
aboard colony ships; their ships having taken them further than expected,
landed on Ikathos. The Shianto were descendants of ancient Indian tribes from
earth, they had taken the majority of their culture and beliefs with them into
space so that they could escape the conditions they faced on earth. Ikathos
spent many years as a peaceful world, the Shianto building a thriving
civilization, this peace was shattered when their world became the target of
ork raiders, for years the planet was besieged by the Orks, their crude
technology and barbarism forced the Shianto to erect defensive structures for
their cities, these were however constantly battered by the various ork war
bands that took their turn in smashing them. It was into this world that Kales
awoke, rescued by a group of Shianto, Kales was a small child of no more than 3
years old. Over the years he grew at an exponential rate, the people of the
world gave him the name Kales, which in their language meant wise and strong.
By the time Kales had reached the age of 10 he was a giant, he spent his time
learning all he could about the people who had adopted him, and learning about
what they faced in their struggle to survive. The Shianto discovered that among
Kales’s many new skills he seemed to have an exceptional skill when it came to
crafting with a forge and the design and understanding of fortifications. Over
the coming years Kales helped the Shianto to re-design and build new
fortifications to defend their people, The Orks were successfully repelled
until one day a massive horde was able to breach the walls around the palace, Kales
was unable to reach the position in time with his defenders, when he finally
reached the attackers and drove them off it was too late, The Chieftain of the
Shianto had been mortally wounded, The chieftain named Kales as his successor,
and upon his death, Kales was granted the title and role to rule the people of
Ikathos.

Kales decided that
enough was enough and vowed to throw the orks from the planet, using his
knowledge and skills along with the artisans of his people they turned their
abilities over to making weapons of war. When Kales and his army marched on the
orks, the green skins were wholly un-prepared for the onslaught, their outlying
forces were crushed within hours, Kales and his army destroying them with their
newly created tanks and armored infantry. Seeing their boys and trucks smashed
asunder, the various Warbosses pulled their remaining forces behind their
defensive walls, Kales’s plan was working, he knew they would never be able to
drive the orks off the planet without destroying the ork forts, however he
realized he could do both tasks in one if he could force them to fall back to their
defenses. Kales and his army surrounded the mass of iron and crude defensive
structures, and unleashed his secret weapon; following behind his main force
were dozens of crude but effective siege weapons, various forms of cannon and
laser arrays mounted on tracked vehicles. The siege weapons were quickly moved
into the carefully prepared earth works, earth and stone ramparts along with
trenches had been dug and erected to protect the Shianto warriors and their
weapons, once everything was prepared the siege began. The orks pounded the
position for days to no avail, their crude weapons however powerful they may
be, were fired with dreadful inaccuracy, The return fire from the Shianto siege
batteries was not so inaccurate, the shells and energy pulses hitting their
assigned targets with brutal efficiency. The siege lasted only 3 days; those Orks
that had survived the shelling were killed in extermination sweeps of the
planet.

Kales realized that there
were threats in this galaxy that static defenses would not always hold off, to
this effect the Shianto craftsmen, under the guidance of Kales began the
construction process on a fleet to take the remaining people away from the
planet, each ship was a virtual space born fortress, armed and armored with the
most advanced technology available to the Kales and his artisans. Once built
the Shianto set sail for the stars carrying the remains of their people and their
ideas and beliefs to locations unknown. During their journey they came under
attack from various alien menaces, but all were swiftly dispatched, eventually
they came across a vast fleet of crude looking starships, thinking them to be
just another attacking force, the fleet entered into its standard defensive
formation with their largest ship, known as the Wolfs Lair, forming the front
of this formation, The Wolfs lair was a colossal vessel, part asteroid, part
space fortress, it was defended with shields strong enough to repel concentrated
ship to ship fire, backing that up was advanced armour plating covering
vulnerable areas, and multiple powerful long range and close defensive
batteries. It looked as though a battle would soon ensue, however the fleet
that faced them was in fact the outer edge of the Emperor of Mankind’s Fleet,
The emperor contacted Kales through a psychic link he shared with his son, and Kales
was relived to finally have contact with his father. Kales and the emperor met
on board the Wolfs Lair, pride at his son’s achievements was clear in the way
they talked, the Emperor was also happy to see another of earths lost peoples
returning. The Emperor introduced Kales to the role that had been prepared for
him, and the legion he was to Command, the vast force of Space Marines under
the banner of the Storm Eagles.

The legions fleet soon
numbered over 1000 vessels, the largest being ‘The Wolf's Lair' the ship that
had been recently modified and refitted with new Imperial technology and was
now adorned with a huge Imperial Eagle on the front facing, this served several
purposes, it was a vast visual reference to the Legions loyalties, also it
provided extensive re-enforcement to the forward armour and helped to disguise
several experimental weapons systems that had been mounted on the prow of the
fortress ship. It was with this fleet they carved through space sending
heretics, chaos and aliens scattering, there was one race however that never
ran, these elder were a mysterious force, and even though the Emperor
distrusted all aliens, Kales was more open minded, he made several alliances
with these aliens and entered a mutual understanding with them. Their conquests
brought them closer and closer to the eye of terror, the massive warp storm
that lead to the chaos realm, it was here they began to embark upon their
secret mission, the fight against chaos, alas the forces of chaos conspired to
try and remove this threat, and whilst they journeyed through the warp, they
became stranded.

Kales was powerless to
stop this event but vowed he would have his revenge, time did not exist as it
does in the warp as it does in realspace, but the fleet survived, honing their
skills against demonic attacks, and crafting new tools and weapons for their
revenge, Many hundred of years had passed when their fleets Shaman Seers were
able to find a way out of the warp. The fleet slid back into real space close
to Cadia, but Kales was immediately aware that things had changed, chaos was
attacking the planets of the emperor, this could not be allowed, the fleet
surged like eagles towards the chaos insurgents on three of the Cadian system's
outlying planets, and they ruthlessly scoured them from the surface,
slaughtering and crushing all that stood before them, Kales saw that the forces
of chaos were franticly falling back into the eye of terror, but became
actually aware that they were being watched, several large ships bearing the
icon of his brother Vulcan approached the fleet and hailed them, Kales opened
communications with them and was greeted by the carapace of an ancient
dreadnaught, it introduced itself as Ten'shal, Kales knew this name but how
could his old friend be trapped in the form of a dreadnaught so soon, it wasn't
until the situation had been explained and past history revealed that Kales
realised they had been lost in the warp for far longer than several Hundred
years, millennia had past and the galaxy was in a mess.

A fleet of the Ecclesiarchy was sent to
destroy the legion as they were classified excommunicate tratoris, and 300
ships from the inquisition were sent to aid this, the fleet blindly lead by the
misguided belief that the Storm Eagles were chaos, attempted to bulldoze its
way through the fleet, it was repelled with a furious barrage from the weapons
systems on the Wolfs Lair. it was not until an order reached the fleet from the
highest members of the Inquisition, that the battle was halted, the existence
of this Legion was purged from all data banks, and apart from the Salamanders,
who were protected by Kales, those who had witnessed the return of the Storm
Eagles were ruthlessly purged, from this point on they disappear from history,
maintaining contact only with the Salamanders through ancient unbreakable
bonds.

The truth about these
events is only known by The Legion itself, the mysterious Chapter 666, the
Highest Members of the Inquisition and the Salamanders.

The Draconan Empire
and the History of the Exodus Armour:

During the eons past
when the ancient races still flourished in our galaxy and beyond the reptilian
race known as the Draconan began to expand their realm, they were initial from
outside the known areas of space, beyond the explored regions but they began to
create colonies and carve out territories in unoccupied space, it wasn't long
before a vast network of planets had been created and trade links forged with
many of the other ancient races. The Draconan's had extremely advanced
technology, most of which had been created to aid in the setting up of the
colony's including mining tools and tera-forming machines, but the Draconan's
realised that these could be used for military purposes, they had no need for
offensive weapons but they decided to create them for defensive work, they
manufactured a large number of pulse weapons of various sizes, mag accelerators
were very popular among the troops because of their power and range, and their
tanks and structures were armoured with their finest creation ever Bio Metal,
this was a marvelous invention, a living metal that could assume any form, it
was initial used to create tools, but it advanced into the mining industry
where it was used to create flexible protective suits that could adjust to the
mine conditions it was able to extrude or form anything the user could think of
so if they needed lots of light, they got lots of lights from their suits if there
was going to be a rock fall the suit would thicken its armour and protect the
wearer, their became a symbiotic relationship between the Bio Metal and its
users, each unit becoming almost linked to the user rather like a faithful claw
hound would. The Draconan's used this technology to protect its troops,
vehicles and buildings alike from attack, the military version became known as
Dragon Armour, for vehicles the armour would be bonded with the crew so that it
could react to them, if attack was imminent it could adjust itself to
compensate for incoming damage ordinance, for their buildings the Bio Metal was
linked to a Bio Sensor unit that would be aware of an attack and could allow
the building to react accordingly. The Draconan's are relatively unheard of
these days, their planets our outside the range of the astronomicon so the
Imperium is barely aware of their existence, it wasn't until the Shianto exodus
fleet was roaming the stars that they were encountered, Kales discovered one of
their larger colonies but it was under attack from a large Dark Eldar Fleet,
Kales took his assault ships and smashed the fleet, he then landed his finest
shock troops on the planet and began to aid the locals in repelling the
slavers, thanks to his quick assistance the slavers were slaughtered and all
their captives rescued, the Draconan's couldn't thank the Shiantoans enough, so
they granted Kales the gift of their Bio Metal, something they had never traded
before, but it was the only way they could properly thank Kales for his timely
intervention, the Draconan artificers instructed Kales and his closest mech
aids in how to create this metal, and they helped in the construction of a
powerful suit of armour for the god Primarch, the Draconan's knew all about the
Primarch project and the Imperium, they also knew about Kales and his people so
they could trust them with this sacred information, the end result of the
armour was the Exodus Suit, a lethal multi form combat suit that could imitate
the Imperium's Armour types but be far stronger than they ever could be.

Kane and the Brotherhood of Steel

With the loss of Kales and the Storm Eagles,
The Emperor could see his plans starting to fall apart; he approached his
closest advisors to see if between them they could come up with a solution. The
solution that they arrived at was relatively simple, using the gene stocks from
Kales, they created a new Primarch, however this Primarch would not lead a
legion like his forbearer, and he would be put in charge of a specialised unit,
charged with creating weapons to fight chaos. The new Primarch, known as Kane,
was more a brother to Kales rather than a clone, subtle differences separated
them. The child Kane was left in the charge of those who he would eventually
command, like all Primarch’s, his accelerated body functions meant that he grew
up in a fraction of the time a normal human would take, during this time he
learned the art of the forge, and discovered he had an innate talent when it
came to the arts of manufacturing weapons and equipment. As he grew his psychic
potential began to evolve, like his brother his abilities became focused on
specific areas, his talent appeared in the form of the telekinetic ability to
manipulate metals and other such materials, this ability became known as the
psychic forge.

Kane was raised by the Demi Legion known as
the Brotherhood of Steel, based on Mimas, one of the moons of Saturn. Their
existence was a closely guarded secret, and their base of operations was protected
by a psychic shield. Some of the Imperium’s most well-known weapons and
vehicles originated in the forges of Mimas, but their creation has always been
attributed to STC specs found by the priests of mars, The Brotherhood has a
close if secret relationship with the Techpriests of Mars, without their help
the forge facilities would never have been created during such a turbulent
time.

During the Horus Heresy, Kane and his
Brotherhood, fashioned some of the Imperium’s finest weapons, from the ancient
and now barely heard of, Volkite weapons, to the various Rhino hull versions
that are still in use today. At the conclusion of the Heresy, The High Lords
had to account for the large number of Space Marines, assigned to the
Brotherhood of Steel, to this end they were attached to the Ultramarines as
Technical advisors, Roboute Guilliman, included them in his initial roster of
Space Marines, but mysteriously during the breaking up of the Legions into
Chapters, these Space Marines vanished from all records, an agreement had been
reach between Kane and Roboute, to attach his troops to the Ultramarines and
use their livery, to provide a reason behind their existence, however to retain
their secretive presence, all note of this was removed from Chapter records.
Very few of the Ultramarines were ever aware of this arrangement, and with the
death of Roboute, it is believed that only Marneus Calgar and his closest
advisors are aware of what happened in the past, it is not uncommon for the
Brotherhood to appear on the field of Battle sporting the Livery of the
Ultramarines, and also to be found assisting The ultramarines as technical
advisors.

With the return of Kales during the final
throws of the 12th Black Crusade, Kales and Kane were united for the
first time, a brotherly bond soon developed between them and since then they
have worked closely with each other, their forces effectively merging into one,
both brothers use their skill and knowledge in the on-going fight against the
forces of chaos.

The Forgotten and the
Grey Knights

The Truth

The Horus Heresy was
turbulent time, the powers of chaos were strong and the demise of the Imperium
of man looked sure, the Primarch's loyal to the Emperor were strong but the
forces of chaos were getting more numerous, The emperor had always known he
would need a force of pure hearted warriors to battle chaos, to this end he
empowered his most trusted Primarch Kales to create this force, his legion was
already highly focused around psychic marines and opposed the corruption in the
galaxy. The Storm Eagles Legion began to train and craft weapons and equipment
suited for a battle against chaos, their fleet entered the warp so that they
may engaged their chosen foe within the boundaries of Terra, alas the gods of
chaos became aware of Kales and his Legion, and during their warp travel, the
gods manifested warp storms and cast demonic sigils that trapped the legion
within the warp, they planned for them to be annihilated by swarms of demonic
entities, but to their shock Kales and his legion swept away all that opposed
them. Their legions Shaman Seers spent years looking for a way out of the warp
but to no avail, the legion continued to train and battle their hated foe
gaining more experience as time passed.

Back in real space the
Horus Heresy was in full swing, and the Emperor, unaware of the fate of Kales
decided to set in motion another plan of a much smaller scale, he created the
Grey Knights and The Inquisition, The Inquisition would be the investigative
arm where as the Grey Knights would provide the military strength, Gene seed
from The Storm Eagles was used to create these new Chaos Hunting Space Marines
and after many years being hidden within the warp they emerged as a new chapter
of space marines, Information about chapter 666 is closely guarded, to most
they are nothing more than myth, to those that know some of the truth they are
a hidden blade against a dark enemy.

Eons later after the
one of Abbadon's many black crusades, the fleet of the Storm Eagles burst from
the warp, they were immediately set upon by several sections of the inquisition
and space marines were called from the surrounding sectors to meet this new
threat, the Storm Eagles had largely been forgotten about, to them only a few
hundred years had past, but thousands of years had gone by in real space, This
earned the Legion its new name The Forgotten, disaster was only averted when
the most senior members of the inquisition stepped in, they alone were the only
living members of the Inquisition to know the truth, all records of the arrival
of The Forgotten were expunged and a purge of the inquisition was enacted to
prevent the knowledge of the return escaping, the only space marine chapter to
know of its existence are the salamanders, they are sworn to secrecy but their
ties with legion go back to the birth of the Primarchs, ties that simply cannot
be broken..

Kales was introduced
to the standing Grandmaster of the Grey Knights and had the gaps in history
filled in, Kales learned how the Grey Knights in their limited numbers had
focused their efforts of destroying the demonic hordes, with the return of Kales
and the remains of his Legion, they were bolstered, able to attack both chaos
forces and their demonic masters, The fleet of The Forgotten is currently
moored around Jupiter, protected from sight buy psychic wards cast by Kales, Kales
himself was made Grand Praetor of the Grey Knights. The Legions vast
manufacturing and Tech based skills were made use of, crafting weapons and
wargear with which to battle their ancient foe.

To this day The
Forgotten exist along side the Grey Knights in Mythology and Legend, battling
the forces of chaos.

The Forgotten Second Founding’s

With the return of the Forgotten at close to
half of its original legion strength, the High Lords ordered the immediate
breaking up of the Forgotten; however, like most aspects of the Forgotten this
was kept a closely guarded secret. The three chapters that were formed from the
remains of the Forgotten were: The Forgotten, The Brotherhood of the Eagle and
the Forgotten Angelus. Each of these Chapters followed the same structure and
guidelines as their original Legion on simply a smaller scale. The Forgotten
Angelus themes themselves around the more shamanic side of the Forgotten, their
designs and symbology bearing some similarities to that of the Dark Angels
which share a similar heritage, whereas the Brotherhood of the Eagle took on
the warrior aspect of their tradition and can often be found with animal pelts
and other such adornments on their armour.

Each Chapter maintains a small Base on Titan
as well as bases on some of the other moons of Saturn; their fleets form part
of the Forgotten Grand Fleet, but are able to act independently if required.
Officially the Chapters are now independent of each other and function as
separate units, unofficially however all three function as a united force,
collaborating when required. Given this new Level of flexibility, each chapter
was able to focus their skills and efforts on a specific area of operations
that would allow them to support their Brother Marines.

The Forgotten focus their efforts of siege
and mechanical operations, crafting new weapons with which to breach the dark
fortresses of chaos, the creation of new and updated forms of current equipment
is also a priority, they share this role with the Brotherhood of Steel, such
creations include new Dreadnaught chassis, and updates to the Tactical
Dreadnaught Armour.

The Forgotten Angelus focus their efforts on
Infantry assaults, utilising everything from the Legions lightly armoured Recon
squads to the Mk4 Aegis armour wielding Terminators, this chapter is able to
deploy an infantry force to match any opposing chaos force.

The Brotherhood of the Eagle focus their
efforts on rapid attacks from both the ground and the air, to this end they
have modified or created a variety of new and improved vehicles for both rapid
air and ground assaults, Such creations include the Aurora and Shadow Strike
Gunships.

The Chapter Masters of the three chapters
form part of the Black Council, the one of most note being Grandmaster
Keleshan, the Chapter Master of the Forgotten Angelus

The Forgotten:

The Forgotten are
broken down into different areas, as they are still close to legion strong it
is difficult for them to follow codex doctrine.

The Black Guard:

These form the core of
The Forgotten's army, these space marines while veterans compared to any normal
chapter still break down into specialist squads

Scimitar Squads: these function much in the same way as Tactical squads with the
exception that they take no heavy weapons, this allows them to advance in a
steady wall, riddling the enemy with rapid bolter shots and flame bursts,
however their psychic potential is always manifested with the help of a Shaman
Warrior leading the squad.

Scythe Squads: these function in the same way as space marine devastator
squads, carrying the chapters heavy weaponry, they comprise the most accurate
and steady of the chapters Black Guard, their psychic potential allows them to
place shots in impossible places

Falchion Squads: these function much like assault squads in most space marine armies;
however their ability to use psychic powers means they are much more effective,
generally equipped with psychically charged weapons similar in function to
nemesis force weapons and able to harass the enemy psychically, they are a
dangerous foe indeed.

Scouts and Aurora Scouts: These form the
reconnaissance units of the Black guard, unlike most chapters scouts are not
neophytes, the legion has not recruited for several generations, its numbers
have not significantly dropped for it to be necessary, instead these scouts are
just specialized members of the Black Guard

The Black Knights:

These are the elite of
the elite, forming the veterans of The Forgotten; many of these have lived in
the warp for years and survived its punishments, emerging stronger for it.

Black Knights form the
main Terminator Equipped force of the Forgotten, their combat load can vary
between close combat weapons to punishing long range missile launchers is not
uncommon to see these squads carrying a mixed weapons loadout.

Shadow Guard: These form the bodyguards of the Black council, the most
experienced Black Knights in the legion are chosen for this duty.

Black Council:

This is the leading organization
of the Legion; this comprises the Masters of the Legion, the Shaman Seers, the
Shaman Healers, the Spirit Guides, Techmarines and Tech Adepts

Masters of the Legion:

Led by Kales, this
form the central command structure of the Legion, all of the Legions masters
are powerful psyker's and equally powerful warriors who regularly smite the
forces of chaos.

Shaman Seers:

Due to the shamanistic
background of the Legion Librarians function differently to those in most space
marine forces, there are similarities between their practices and those of the
space wolves chapter. Each Seer calls upon the spirits of its forbears to guide
their powers; they also employ a similar rune based system to the space wolves
to focus and use their powers.

Shaman Healers:

Similar to the Seers,
the Healers function differently to standard apothecaries, they are able to
combine their psychic abilities with that of their technology, using the
spirits of fallen warriors as a guide for the spirits of the injured and dead,
this coupled with their equipment means they have a high chance of reviving
fallen marines, those that are unable to be brought back still aid the Healer
in preventing the deaths of others.

Spirit Guides:

These marines are
responsible for the spiritual health of the legion, similar to chaplains,
Spirit Guides guide and protect the spirits of the living and the dead, they
also support their forces in combat lending a heavy psychic hammer to deal with
stubborn enemies, they differ from chaplains as the Legion does not follow the
Imperial cult, Kales remembers the Emperor for what he was, a man who hated
worshipers, to this end he has prevented the Imperial cult from gaining any
footing within the legion, this would normally gain him a great deal of enemies
within the Imperium, but their anonymity shields him from this.

Spirits of the Fallen:

The psychic strength
of the legion's brotherhood means that when they die they don't just disappear
into the warp, their souls are bound willingly to their fellow brothers in the
legion, this is a pact that is wrought before the space marines even put on
their power armour for the first time, this has two functions, firstly the
spirits of the fallen help to guide and focus the powers of their brothers, giving
them advice when necessary, secondly the Shamans and Spirit Guides are able to
call upon these dead spirits to aid in their work and enhance their abilities.

I know it might seem like a small thing, but seriously you need to fix all the many, many incorrect uses of "there" (should be 'their', the possessive form 90% of the time here). I'm honestly not trying to be a jerk or a curmudgeon, but I kind of quit reading part way through. It's a bit of a pet peeve for me. Take care of that stuff first and I'll give it another go.

my apologies, grammar is not my strong point, I usualy rely on word to catch them, for some reason it didnt, until I changed them all, then it decided to work properly, I will paste the current version hopefully with most of the errors gone now, will do it once I get to a pc later at work.

Ok sorry for the double post, didnt feel editing the previous one would be suitable.

New version is now up for some reason i cant get it to format right, probably something to do with the way I have done it in word, I have also recently done furthur expansion on the Draconian faction mentioned in this, I am also in the process of doing a test codex for them to make them a playable race in 40k.
