spu00sed
I have been thinking about breached squads and their role within the legion. They have short to medium range weapons, and defences for close combat. In other words they are all mixed up. As such I have come up with the follow ideas for FW style special rules for them. shield wall when under heavy fire breached squads will close ranks and overlap their shields. Giving them a greater degree of protection. If every model in a bleacher squad is in base contact with at least one other model from the squad. All models fan a 5+ cover save to all shots resolved against the front of the model (usually the chest of the model or the shield facing), testudo formation named after a heavily armoured monster from the distant past of terra, the testudo formation allows the bleacher squads an even greater degree of protection, but at a cost of manoeuvrability. You may be declare that your bleacher squad is going to be in testudo formation at the start of any of your movement phases. The unit moves as if they have the slow and purposeful special rule. Any model in base contact with two or more other models from the unit gain a 4+ cover save. shield charge if a breached squad is able to build up momentum, their charge can be devastating as they use their shields to crush bones and shatter the enemies morale. If a breacher squad charging at least 6" and rolls a 9 or more on the charge dice then every member gains the hammer of wrath special rule. Praetors and siege breakers, with boarding shields, in the unit also benefit from this rule. However they cause D3 hammer of wrath hits instead of 1. Three simple special rules that are not to over powered. Both the shield wall and testudo formations not helping against ignore cover weapons. The shield wall is also vulnerable to being flanked by enemy units and the testudo is very clumped up and slow. The shield charge isn't always going to happen, but is a nice bonus if it does (just like the old ogre bull charge rule). So what special rules would you give he humble breacher? jeremy1391
I'd be content with If in base contact with 2 or more models with boarding shields they receive 4+ inv and +1 toughness Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281805-ideas-for-breachers/#findComment-3493345 Share on other sites
spu00sed
I thought about +1 toughness, but thought it made iron hands broken. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/281805-ideas-for-breachers/#findComment-3493677 Share on other sites
