Dear HH fans: you can afford to give back Dan Abnett.

I enjoyed Horus Rising and Know No Fear and I am sure I will enjoy Unremembered Empire(I like the idea of a second empire). I also love the Gaunts Ghost series. There are people that don't like those and that's fine.

 

On the other side I never read Legion or Prospero Burns because I'm not interested in those novels. There are people that like those novels and that's fine.

 

To sum up: No I will not give back Dan Abnett. That's my choice not yours. Don't like that? Oh well

 

Edit: I'm sure Dan Abnett is going to read your post and think to himself "Gee this man/woman wants me to stop all my works right now so I can write that one book to satisfy him/her? Well golly gee I better get right on that".

To be fair, and possibly even likely in this case, perhaps not. This is the internet after all, we've all spoken to people with a broken or incomplete understanding of our own language, whichever that may be.

 

I actually think the OP was trying to defend Abnett, from those who get riled up about him going off on tangents some find inconsequential to their interests. Like Prospero Burns being first and foremost a snapshot of the VI Legion, rather than a book just about Prospero burning. There were some absolutely livid people over that, while others, like myself and I think OP here, wanted a story. It didn't need to be about Special Character 'A' Doing Something Awesome As Alluded To In Its Codex Entry. It didn't need to be about Prosperans on fire, because Thousand Sons only just showed that. Like immediately prior. If that isn't to your liking, well. Give back Dan Abnett.

 

At least, I think that was his argument. Kind of hard to tell.

If it was a defense for Abnett it could have gone better than the OP telling us that we don't deserve Abnett just so he can have Abnett write a book that he would like.

Its just that he used the word 'you' a lot, typically as someone who simply foes not like Abnett, but sometimes he used 'me' to define an opposition to 'you's stance.

 

I think the gist of what he's saying is "If you don't like how Abnett writes, give up reading it and leave the rest of us who do like him alone."

 

Just worded badly enough for me to think that English is a second language he doesn't quite have yet.

Edit:  the point is that you should give Dan Abnett back, because you

don't need him or even deserve him, and I want to read another Riders of

the Dead, or Titanicus, books where all the characters are never heard

from again, and the events do not effect some kind of horrible storyline

you all seem to care about so much

I considered the OP's post an opinion, one I didn't feel was correct, but his opinion none the less; which is fine and dandy. Everybody is welcome to their personal opinions. Hell, I encourage it. What personally set me off was the whole "fans of the Horus Heresy don't deserve him" crap. It was intentionally inflammatory, and I consider such comments uncivil.

I'd love to know where you got the idea this forum dictates what the writers at Black Library do. We're not exactly the boss of them, you know?

I'd also love to know what arcane logic you used to work out if fans of his Horus Heresy books 'deserve' more of them or not.

This is a pointless thread.

 

Abnett is one of the authors who helped define the 30k setting through BL's HH series from the very start. Furthermore he is not owned by anybody and certainly he's no-ones to give back.
