Help Deciding a Legion (I've Decided)

Oh and if you do Iron Warriors you don't have to feel bad about taking a Typhon and a squadron of Medusas. Ah hell now you are making me want to do a small Iron Warrior army.....must resist urge! Also I have a feeling Perturabo will be an absolute monster in combat. When he absolutely massacred the Imperial Fist boarding party I was terrified at his malice and shear power.

One of the most badass tanks in the book.

The Legion pattern of the Medusa is coming out soon and looks incredible but this would work as well!

Noctus, you were born wearing Midnight Clad. You were raised by it, molded even. Return back to the VIII Legion you once swore loyalty to. Come back to the fold, and it will be as if you never left. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew. Part of the ship, part of the crew.

*BANG*

...Ahem.

Flamers, Phosphex, no restraints. To me, that gives you Iron Warriors or Iron Hands survivors. The IW are already known for such tactics, and Medusa's launching Phosphex shells are about the nastiest thing I can think of.

A company of Iron Hands survivors would work too; "Hell hath no fury like a warrior betrayed". Cut off, alone, pissed off, and mourning the death of their Father. Sounds like the perfect recipie for what you're looking for, to me.

Got bored marking books at 9:30 at night so I thought I would throw together a quick scorched earth list

Moritat

Dual plasma pistols, artificer armour, jump pack

You can be an Iron Warrior, they're a great Legion. Bombardments, trenches, siegecraft. Awesomesauce.

Or you could be a man, and go with the Night Lords. You know, the Legion that is fear incarnate, rather than the Legion that throws heavy ordinance at a distance because DEAR GOD, KEEP AWAY. The Space Marines are supposed to know no fear, but who else would light up the night sky with far-flung bombardments but those who fear the dark? Who else would dedicate themselves through and through to the breaking open of fortified places but those who fear the unknown?  Who else would then wall themselves in but those who fear what they left outside? Who else would grit their teeth and pile undeserving blame and fault upon a brother Legion but those who fear their own failures?

The Night Lords reign over fear. They have tasted it, caressed it, mastered it. While the Iron Warriors built great monstrosities to keep fear at bay, the Night Lords have shaped it into a weapon, from which no fortress is safe. The light of illumination is a torch carried by a frightened child lost in the jungles, far from home. The Night Lords need no such crutch. The galaxy is darkness. The realms beyond are darkness. You can not survive in it, without understanding it, becoming one with it. Take to its bosom, and let it accept you as its child. Pushing back the darkness is a fruitless endeavor, destined to end in blood and pain. The herd of prey learns to defend itself, but always the predators win. Which are you?

Come Noctus, don't give into fright, to huddle close to the ground-shaking booms of large guns, as if drowning out the sounds of inevitable death moving ever closer somehow removes its source. Join us in madness, and laugh within the dark.

Or you could be a man, and go with the Night Lords.

Thanks for making my day man, this had me cracking up so hard. I can be a 'man' by choosing the most unmanly and cowardly of Legion. Good one. ;)

Top two Traitor Legions still stand as Night Lords and Iron Warriors still, not gonna lie though, that Iron Hands idea of your is sorely tempting, Heathens.

So, I would say the 4 most prominent options for me at the moment are

Iron Warriors

Night Lords

Imperial Fists

Iron Hands

Madness is the key there. The Night Lords are already reduced to infighting and fratricide, and we haven't even gotten to Terra yet! The Lion broke your fleets, and you scatter like the Raven Guard, scratching to survive. Laugh all you want, it is a false face to your weakness.

Iron Warriors Have never been afraid to be up close. We itch for the breach, and throats taken. We just approach war as a conflict, not as a game. We calculate, we plan, we prepare, and we engage with the full intent of crushing our foes and burying them in shallow grave.

You know, like real WARRIORS, not like cowardly half-men who hide in shadows.

I seem to recall political maneuvering wiping out a great many Iron Warriors by the hands of their fellow Iron Warriors.............................

I aim to please, bro. :p

Everything is mad. There's no hiding from it. The Imperium is mad, for trying to become something more than the Gods of the Warp. The Emperor is mad, for his megalomaniacal belief that he, and only he, could make a difference in a galaxy of madness. The Warmaster is mad, for believing himself more worthy than his father, when he is a lesser equal. The traitors are mad, for revoking everything they stood for in order to tear it all down. The loyalists are mad, for they believe that their stand has a chance of making a difference. The Night Lords are mad, but they understand that. They revel in it. Madness is something that claws you deeper in the more you fight it. The Night Lords don't fight it. You could say that they are the least mad.
Besides, it isn't as if the Iron Warriors are immune to those same slurs you throw upon us. Infighting and fratricide? As if these are concepts foreign to the "warriors" of iron. Brittle iron, emotional iron. So proud in their unbending nature, until it shatters, like the spine of a cyclopean god. What matter of warriors style themselves so? Who would grant upon themselves a name doomed to failure? Warriors. What war do you fight in? This small, ephemeral thing, this battle over the dancing, flickering light of the Imperium, so near to its guttering?

I must have missed something then. Political bickering, yes.

Murdering the entire interm command team while a primarch is in a coma, because you don't like them? No.

@Cormac: This is 30k. Your fear tactics hold no sway here. And the fact that you run from every fight legitimizes my opinion that your Legion should have been disbanded. Why waste material on once-men who won't even fight.

You kill children and old ladies for fun *slow clap* congrats. Totally proved how tough you are.

Were there loyalist Iron Warriors? I don't know enough about the Heresy to know this answer. The Iron Warriors don't strike me as being nearly idealistic enough to have loyalists. But what do I know?

Iron Warriors are the ones I'd most likely pick up if I ever went the HH route. Followed very closely by Imperial Fists.

Not that I'd go loyalist if I ever did go HH.

So, one thing I must confess is that I honestly never looked to the Iron Hands as an option for my Legion. I'm not quite sure why, but they just never struck me as an interest... Perhaps I was looking for some sort of physical flare, or maybe I was too grounded in the concept that I wanted to play a Traitor Legion, I'm not sure. Whatever the reason, Heathen's suggestion really sort of stuck with me, and so I started thinking, and I started doing some research. Survivors of the Dropsite Massacre, Once proud stoic warriors who strode alongside their beloved Primarch now brought low, defeated, Fatherless. The weakness of kinship and trust in others has led to their ultimate betrayal and their ultimate demise... What is there left but to cast off the weakness of mortality, of emotions?

There is however one, simple, pure emotion that will never betray a Warrior; Hate. And that is all they have left to feel. Cut off, deserted by the Imperium with nothing left but survivors, there is only one thing left for them. There will be NO retaliation. NO liberation. NO reclamation. There will ONLY be revenge until every single world that flies the banner of the Arch-Traitor Horus will burn to smoldering ash in the image of Medusa herself.

Hades hath no fury like a Warrior Betrayed, and there is no fire that burns stronger than his rage.
