AGPO
I'm sorely tempted by lots of the goodies that Forge World are offering, but with a large power armoured force already I'm not sure if I can justify a force I can only break out once in a blue moon. Ideally I'd like to be able to include whatever I buy alongside my Angels Sanguine, and maybe model my chapter's predecessors as they would have been at the Siege of Terra and the IX Legion's major battles. The ideas I have are: 1) Paint some PH Blood Angels with some Angels Sanguine iconography. In 30k they represent those marines who would go on to found the new chapter, in 40k they're a company that fought in the breach alongside Sanguinius and have refused to alter the colours they wore alongside their Primarch. 2) Paint them as pure Blood Angels. Just say the two chapters are fighting alongside each other in 40k games. Sadly this means painting a load more red core troops. 3) Paint a Siege of Terra army with the majority of units as Fists and White Scars, with any particularly cool options (fellblades etc) in Blood Angels colours. In 40k these represent ancient relics never repainted in order to honour their heritage. Also it gives me some ready made C:SM allies. 4) Stick to my Angels Sanguine colour scheme and come up with a fluff worthy excuse as to why the chapter adopted its new colours during the heresy. Any feedback/advice great fully accepted! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282026-successors-and-30k/ Share on other sites
Conn Eremon
First one is doable, I believe. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282026-successors-and-30k/#findComment-3497569 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
The first one. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282026-successors-and-30k/#findComment-3497570 Share on other sites
Dumah
I would go for idea #1 as well. It's always very fun to see references to future chapters during the Heresy. Also, as you touched upon, less work for you! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282026-successors-and-30k/#findComment-3497577 Share on other sites
Conn Eremon
I should specify, though, that the first option really only works if the successor is a 2nd or 3rd Founding. Any further, and I doubt that there would have been a precursor within the original Legion. Danny Cyanide
They are second founding, so I'd say option 1 is the best one! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282026-successors-and-30k/#findComment-3497654 Share on other sites
AGPO
Well option one certainly seems the most favoured so far. Now there's just the question of how to represent the Angels Sanguine element. I'm working on a similar basis to Amit's Flesh Tearers in that they represent a chapter of the Legion. My thoughts on colours are either to use the Angels Sanguine heraldry as a company symbol, with the right shoulder pad bearing a winged skull, possibly on a black background. The other option I'm considering is to stick to the halved scheme with the Blood Angels legion badge and explain its origins: During the early days of the Heresy with the loyalists on the back foot and in retreat, the IX Legion's 23rd chapter alongside Imperial Army units of the Koraan Rifles were ordered to fight a rearguard action on the garrison world of Golanta with little chance of survival, in order to enable the bulk of Imperial forces to withdraw. The Koraan soldiers they served with came from a culture in which a warrior facing certain death would paint garb himself in black to show his readiness to pass into the grave. In solidarity the Blood Angels took part in this ritual and blackened their plate with oil and grease from their transports. When the handful of remaining astartes were eventually relieved, they left half their armour black, partly to honour the Army forces who had died to a man to hold their position, but also as a reminder that it is the ultimate fate and duty of all astartes to die for the Imperium. Cormac: My 40k stuff is Angels Sanguine, so they're second founding. I almost went for Angels Encarmine whose scheme would have been much easier to translate as a pre-heresy Blood Angels variation. Emperor's Furor
Yeah see this a lot with the Ultramarines, was the only thing that swayed me into potentially doing them. Conn Eremon
I was taking the general stance, for anyone else who might be interested in doing something similar. I'm aware your Chapter is 2nd Founding. Personally, I'm more into the idea that they are all Blood Angels, with a Chapter badge incorporated somewhere as personal heraldry. Within that badge, personal colors are okay. Or banners, cloth worn over the armor, etc. Edit: If I ever do get into 30k modeling, I'd go this route with my War Consuls, an Ultramarine successor. Or any of my traitor warbands, really. Probably World Eaters, the Eyes of Tivan.
