Oriax
Hi all! One thing that is bugging me is the Dreadknight. It is in my opinion too ugly to use, that babycarrier is really taking all sesne from the model... This has surely been adressed before and is only my opinions, so no need for further that discussion. What I do need to discuss is if there is any good alternatives to the model, both model-wise or another unit to fill the role. I have been told it is a great thing game wise and I want to use it, but I can't see myself buy it and use it as it looks now. I have seen some converted models with a drednought torso instead of the carriage, is that something that look good if I already have two dreads in the army? Thanks for your input! Gentlemanloser
Whether a conversion would look good or not isn't really something anyone else can answer. It's a personal preference. Do you think a conversion would look good? As for replacing units, nothing in the GK Codex can match it. It's possible you could look to an allied MC, WraithKnight, Riptide, etc. Depending on the role you wanted your NDK to perform. lhg033
not sure how they compare size wise but Scibor does a couple of types of mech suits that could be good stand ins http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1333 http://sciborminiatures.com/en_,shop.php?art=1408 might need a bit of conversion for the weapons. I've also seen some people combine the fronts of dreadnoughts with the dreadknight kit to good effect edit: just reread your post and seen you mention about the dreadnought front and having two dreads in your army. not sure on this one. you could 'fluff' it up that the dreadknights are bigger dreadnought type/piloted constructs hence the same fronts? Oriax
Yup, you're right about what looks good. Anyhow, allies is a good idéa, but then I would need some more models from the allied chapter to make it look somewhat sensible.. I think that scibor model looks more like what I want, thanks for that tip! Oriax
Can I use the forgeworld relic guy as a dreadknight? Would it not be a different unit then? The Dakka one looks really well, I might go with that to keep it somewhat "official". Thanks all for your input, I will have to think about this! Reclusiarch Darius
Well, you might run into issues with proxying, as the DK is quite a tall model. I'd combine the kits, the Contemptor is still a bit too short. I just leave the harness off mine, looks better that way. Grand Master Caloth
I honestly think the left one (as you look at the picture) looks far batter, with the head of the GK visible. The full sarcophagus just doesn't look good on the dreadknight, of looks like a cartoon-ish dreadnought Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282051-dreadknight-alternatives/#findComment-3503132 Share on other sites

Karamozov meets the dreadknight! @Caloth, I like the torso of the left one better too, but my paint job turned out nicer on the right one. DinoDoc
These guys (Relic Contemptors from Forge World): For the record, are they of similar size? Oriax
Ooh, very nice models, I did'nt think there would be so many alternatives, thanks for all the input! But now my problem is what to choose! :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282051-dreadknight-alternatives/#findComment-3504153 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
For the record, are they of similar size? Nope. Contemptor is much smaller, its only a little bit bigger than a normal Dread really, and it's a bit less tubby too. DK's tower over everything except Riptides and stuff like Daemon Princes or Tyranid beasties. It's quite a tall model, mostly due to the legs and the width of the shoulders. Unlike Dreadnoughts, its closer in some ways to human proportions. Even the Contemptor is a little short in the leg and squat, DK's look more sophisticated and advanced (probably because they are in the background).
