The emperor.... Deamon prince or perpetual?

There is an Astronomicon.(The Outcast Dead)

Navigators can Navigate without it.(Soul Hunter)

But, the Astronomicon is like the Northern Star, it acts as a point of bearing. So Navigating without it is very difficult.(Soul Hunter)

The Astronomicon is fueled by psykers, they're the gasoline/petrol so to speak.(The Outcast Dead)

The Emperor is the power source. Without Him, the thing just will not run.(Pretty much anything and everything, but I believe this is also in [iThe Outcast Dead[/i])

Gork and Mork are the Waaagh! made manifest in the warp. The Waaagh! is them and they are the Waaagh!

The Eldar Gods are also emotion, but of a different make. Remember, Slaanesh is also an Eldar God. Also, Khorne once fought Slaanesh over Khaine himself, as he and Khorne both draw strength from the same emotions.

From the older fluff, Malcador used all his abilities up on the Golden Throne til Dorn brought what remained of the Emperor back to Terra, gives him a message and disappears then Emp tells Dorn to make adjustments to the throne before strapping him in, maybe along the lines of "leave to broil in aetheric turmoil for 10,000 years until mixture begins to rise" so been looking forward to this moment being fleshed out cause to me, this is the grimdarkest moment of all 40K...the moment where it's went from "the Emp is unable to come and help until he really really has to but only for a few minutes"  to "the Emp can't help you but he's up there, watching you and might just send a saint" (who is probably going to be a perpetual after all)

As to the Golden Throne, have a vague memory of it's origins or purpose being heavily hinted at in Mechanicum, however can't remember exactly but could it have same origins as Guiliman's new disco ball, in terms of linking places together via stellar waypoints. Now I'm basing this on what/how I've read over the last 20 years so not sure what's been retconned completely but....

The Golden Throne was on the place of a webway gate on Terra, Emp's plan to create a human version to protect from Chaos as humanity was evolving into beings with increased psychic ability, much like Eldar.

No-one knows how webway works, Eldar inherited from Slann/Old Ones though think there is a map in the Black Library? Is the Phoros device part of it?

So, if a map then some method to record it....something like the Ashkashic reader, again awhile since reading Mechanicum and through my convoluted explaination, be that a possible way for Blood Angels to travel to Terra for the siege while Dark Angels with their warp device have ended up being sent to the Space Wolves instead of Terra, (or to keep the hunt for Curze going, bearing in mind DA have no control over Tchulcha-what ever it's name is plus the way it saved Death Guard, has its own goals for the Lion) and Ultra making their way as the ruinstorm breaks from unknown plot device or Chaos's focus on Terra weakening it.

Crazy theory over....

Well, if Gaunt's Ghost sets the standard for all of the Saints, then they aren't Perpetuals. Or at least, not like the ones we've seen so far.

I don't think the Phros device is a part of it. It was described as possibly being sentient. And also it only acted as a beacon for the most part, but when it did transport people, it was literally instantaneous. From what we've seen of the Webway, the travel is very rarely instantaneous. At least, not by the traveler's account as they have to literally traverse the webway.

Something that's always kind of just been hinted at is that several species have kind of formulated their own ways of dealing with the warp. Especially when concerning warp travel. For example, the Tau just kind of go warp-surfing while the Necrons utilize some sort inertial dampening FTL drive. And then we get the Saruthi, who used some weird fourth-dimension-bending to travel around, in a manner very similar to the Webway, and yet, wholly different. So honestly, I believe the Pharos is completely different, just as the Tchulchua is completely different. All of the above are various forms of travel, some through the warp and some bypassing it.
