The Silent War?

From the look of the contents, it's everything after Isstvan V. The first section involves Malcador and events on Terra.

Interesting.

I hear this is supposed to be a fully fluff-updated version.

Are there any significant changes between this and the old one or are they just minor one-liners?

most interested in the timeline

any clues as to future battles and engagements, and which legion(s) will be involved?

The names of the sections in the second book are:

  • The Silent War
  • Signus Prime
  • Calth
  • The Age of Darkness
  • Terra
  • Aftermath

The only ones that contain (at least some) information that hasn't been expanded upon in the novels, yet, are 'The Age of Darkness' and 'Terra'. 'Terra' obviously will cover the Siege but 'The Age of Darkness' has interesting bits on 'The Wolf and the Khan' and the 'Doom of the Death Guard' for example.

I haven't read enough of it to ascertain that yet, I'm afraid.

scars spoilers

could just be about the bits in scars?

or, seen as the space wolves are waiting for help from an unexpected quarter

could the khan, post-prospero, returning to help them after the initial refusal be a shock?

Reasonable. But better safe than sorry just in case. :D

I want to do a review but please brother just tell me what's in it, the fluff nazi in me needs to know

Hey Olisredan?

TELL. ME. EVERYTHING.

Okay, this'll purely be a fact outlay, rather than a review.

  • The books are are very much in the style of the current FW HH books, with the exclusion of the metal corner protection (that's because of the slip cover).
  • Both books roughly come in at the two-hundred page mark, although book one (The Age of the Emperor) outweighs book two (The Silent War) by twenty-five or thirty pages.
  • Galaxy maps feature on the inside covers (all of which are identical).
  • There is art in the books from the CCG, from Adrian Smith's work, John Blanche's work and there's many of the 'modern' depictions also inside, too.
  • The CCG artwork sill makes up a majority of the pictures.
  • On page 24 through 27 of the first book there are colour schemes of the Legiones Astrtes depicted very much like how FW usually depicts them (front-on view with a description underneath).
  • At the end of book two there is an artwork index separated by Legion/faction, presumably for easy referance.

Now, although I'm pretty sure the Ruinstorm and the brief description on the Crusader Host, for example, are new additions to these books (indeed, there appears to be a few additions) - there are snippets which concern me as to how much of the original text was updated. Until I read this cover to cover and compare them to the original books (that I have somewhere), I can't be sure.

The bit about Phall made me want to fact check. I was under the impression that there was more ships in the Imperial Fists fleet but my memory is a bit fuzzy. That said, after a bit of checking, I do believe that the text is indeed up to date.

Okay, cool. Just out of curiosity, if I say, purchased the older visions, would you happen to know how much discrepancies would be between the two in terms of the common information?

Not looking for specifics, just seeing how "out of date" the older ones are is all. Like "don't bother" to "you'd be missing out on the new stuff, but you'd be good".

Off the top of my head I can't recall which bits are definitely different and how they are different but there's extra information that's not in the old ones and it seems to me that the newer version doesn't have the same discrepancies the originals did (like mislabeled pictures). I think, to me, "you'd be missing out on the new stuff, but you'd be good" - there's certain pieces of info in the old ones that are certainly out of date but if you're up to speed with the HH series, you're going to mostly know the info in the newer version.
