Brother Heinrich
Hey guys, I'm wondering what the best method is for washing vehicles without creating a splotchy-brush stroke effect. My current scheme relies on a liberal black ink wash to deepen the base coat which work great with infantry, but kinda falls short on vehicles. I haven't done a matte coat over it so I don't know if that'll fix the issue, but I'm wondering if you guys have any tips or recommendations that could help keep the colors uniform throughout the army.I've thought about dipping the tanks, but I've never done that before and I have no idea where I could get a container large enough for a landraider. Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282130-washing-vehicles/ Share on other sites
Dragonlover
There's probably an ice-cream tub large enough for a Land Raider. Alternatively, some kind of storage crate? You know, the stackable plastic ones. Dragonlover Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282130-washing-vehicles/#findComment-3499891 Share on other sites
Brother Heinrich
Actually I might try airbrushing a wash on it. Anyone have experience with that? Brother Heinrich
UPDATE: just ran upstairs because the issue was sticking in my noggin and tried airbrushing the wash onto my rhino. Worked like a charm. A word of caution however, it gets dark FAST, so make sure you carefully modulate it. It ends up acting like a glaze instead of wash, so it doesn't flow, but it will change the tint on the color, which is what I was going for. my new vehicle recipe is as follows for anyone who wants to try it: - Prime - Basecoat color from 45° angle to create shadows on the tank armor plating - Airbrush Nuln Oil lightly over the surface, carefully keeping an eye on how dark the tint gets - Paint all metallic bits - brush Nuln Oil on all the Metallic parts - paint brown/bone/flesh - wash brown/bone/flesh parts with Devlan Mud - Highlight vehicle edges with VGC Magic Blue - painting lighting with VGC Magic Blue - Highlight Lightning with VMA White - Track weathering - OSL lighting on headlights and targeters - airbrush Matte Varnish Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282130-washing-vehicles/#findComment-3499961 Share on other sites
madscuzzy
Rather than wash the entire surface, you could try lining the corners with the wash instead. For a smoother flow, gloss varnish the model, then run the wash in the corners. Capillary action will help the wash flow evenly. For an even smooth flow, you can use oils/enamels.
