ForlorneRaven
Hi guys, having recently returned to the hobby due to a university educed hiatus I am looking for a new project. This new project is inspired by the actions of the loyalist portions of the traitor legions in the Istvaan system. I figure its easy to be loyal when all around you remain loyal however to do so when all around turn traitor is in a way heroic. I am looking to build a force built around the remnants/any who escaped the purging by the Warmasters forces of loyalists from within their ranks. In particular I'm considering World Eaters or Luna Wolves but i'm open to any suggestions. As such is their any background to support loyalist survivors of the traitor legions continuing to actively oppose the Warmaster ? I can think of only Warsmith Dantioch assisting the Ultra's. Thanks, Elliot Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282219-loyalist-traitors-still-active-post-istvaan/ Share on other sites

infyrana
Without wanting to give anything away, isn't there something with a certain Death Guard come Death Watch coming back and... Perhaps a little wiki searching for Garviel Loken might help your thoughts :) (The wiki is pretty comprehensive, so if you are a book reader and want them all, don't spoil yourself) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282219-loyalist-traitors-still-active-post-istvaan/#findComment-3501582 Share on other sites

Russ Brother 92
I thought there were roughly 13+ named who escaped with Garro? plus those from their ship/s - not sure myself as I haven't read very far into it yet. It would certainly be a flavourful force, I can see them dropping from orbit to surprise the traitors on Istvaan V and possibly (like Dantioch) helping at Calth and the 500 Worlds... Tamwulf
I was doing some research into Luna Wolves/Sons of Horus and discovered that Gavel Loken survived the final bombardment on Istvaann III and went mad. Nathaniel Garro, himself one of the few remaining Loyalist Death Guard, found him. They fought a duel, Loken won/regained his sanity, and together, they went off and founded the Grey Knights/Inquisition. Apparently, there were more then a few Loyalist survivors of Istvaan III. I really like the idea that the most loyal Space Marines to the Emperor, even when their entire Legion turned to Chaos, founded the very faction that would specialize in fighting Chaos. I thought that was kinda kewl. Greyall
Seems a bit too late for Tarvitz to return, WoT =) He's the very image of a martyr, going back to organize the counter-strike. And getting a 5-star performance. He actually did a lot better than Eidolon - except for the dying part. Emperor's Furor
Tarvitz will be the only guy to get me to consider making an Emperor's Children force. Greyall
Well, it's been a while since Sword of Truth was released, so it's fine for me. =p Of course, I can't speak for everyone else. ForlorneRaven
Yeah Tarvitz is the real inspiration for this well him and the WE in Battle for the Abyss. I am however hoping to build a force that is still active. Only downside about martyrdom is that its just so final! I am however adverse to using named characters i like to build my own narrative within established framework, within reason of course. Well, there's plenty of evidence to support that not all of each Legion's entirety was at Istvaan. So a worst-case scenario could be that you pick one of those random expedition fleets and then go from there. Let's you use your own characters and everything. ForlorneRaven
Yeah thats what i m leaning towards Kol_Saresh! Like a garrison force totally out of the way which due to either its remoteness/loyalties/leadership (being made up primarily of terrans for example) sides with the loyalists over their brethren. Perhaps even adopting their pre-primarch heraldry/name to fight on for the emperor. Knight of the Raven
Considering how much Angron cares about his own legion, it's not outside the realms of possibility for some garrison in the middle of nowhere to be downright forgotten. They're all waiting for Father Christmassacre to come back bearing gifts and he never does. The poor things. As for their old name, there are many World Eaters armies here but I've never seen any War Hound. So at least that would be new. And if the white shoulder pads don't please you, remember the adage shared by the Word Bearer, Iron Warrior and Salamander veterans: everything looks better with black pauldrons! Can't figure out if if you're being sarcastic here lol What I remember from the book, is that Angron decided to drop before planned, then there were ships still loyal in orbit that could of broke away just as Garro did, the guys in Sword of Truth even made it up from the surface and escaped, that's all I was getting at.
