millest
hi folks, need some advice on the FW MKIV space marines please, im looking at picking some of these up as IIRC the MKIV is supposed to be the most advanced mark of power armour out there, the newer version are just easier to make (if this isnt right please feel free to correct me). now the crux of the issue is ive bought some metal chapter pads to use on them but ive being advised these might be too big by someone (who doesnt have either model or pads) so was hoping could any one confirm if the GW metal pads are too big for a FW mkIV marine and if possible could you let me have pics? thanks in advance millest Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/ Share on other sites
MordentHex
I have had no problem mixing and matching parts from any of the fw/gw kits until recently. sometimes the heads seems a little to big or to small for the body. that's the only problem i can recall. Question being why not just get the fw pads too? :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3503094 Share on other sites
millest
FW dont produce mentor legion/raptors unfortunately. the problem is the metal pads definately seem bulkier than the standard GW plastic pads so i am begining to suspect they may be too large :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3503102 Share on other sites
MordentHex
as i recall they where still metal, im not sure if they have recast them in finecast. If they have you can warm the pads and bend them to fit a little better. OR grab some green stuff and fill in the gaps between the arms and the pad for a snug fit. Grim Dog Studios
I have the crux pads from the thunder hammer set sold by GW. I am assuming the pads will be a similar size, so I just checked out how well they fit on a MK IV arm. Unfortunately, they are a tad bit smaller, but not by much. You could easily just file/trim down the top of the MK IV arm and it should look ok! If that fails, you could just press mold the mentor symbol! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3503113 Share on other sites
millest
wulox was that on a FW MkIV arm? if they are smaller thats better and i can work with that as the symbols and posing could hide that. cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3503120 Share on other sites
Grim Dog Studios
Yep, on the Legion MK IV. The pads are a little bit smaller. They only just cover the section of the arm that gets covered by the pad, whereas the MK IV pads cover up a bit of the arm too, almost toward to elbow. I dont think it would be too much of a problem and is not that noticable, but with a bit of trimming/filing it can be made to look seamless I'd imagine! Grotsmasha
I've used the metal DA pads on mkII/III/IVs with no issue (although now they need a repaint as FW has the DA Legion badge in red...) millest
has anyone come across any decent transfers for the Mentors? having seen the pads on the FW marines now they have arrived the metal ones are much too thick rim wise when compared to the other pads (cant swap both as they are recon marines with cloaks) so might have to resort to transfers for these models.cheers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3513993 Share on other sites
Kaedes Nex
GW used to produce a transfer sheet for the Mentors but it looks like they discontinued it. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2012/3/28/347126_md-.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/282288-fw-mkiv-space-marine-advice-needed/#findComment-3514580 Share on other sites
