PDF and InDesign template for a custom IA: finished

You know… I can't speak for anyone else but if you already have an IA written to your satisfaction, and/or have a chapter badge made up, it wouldn't be THAT hard for one of us with the program to cut and paste that stuff in there. I am a busy guy, but it's fairly quick work. If you're interested and you fit that criteria, hit me up and I can see what I can do, man.

Agreed, more than happy to drop pre-written stuff into one of the templates and popping a Chapter symbol into the field.

EDIT: I'm at the mercy of my workload though, since I'm usually on the B&C at work...

EDIT #2:

Mind posting your bevel/emboss settings for your Chapter symbol actually? I'm trying to replicate your end result but it's just that tiny bit off!

I did that in Photoshop, actually. Do you have that? It'd maybe be easiest to take some screenshots of the setting window for the blending options. I'll do that when I get a minute (edit. Adding below). The nice thing about blending layers is that I can drop any basic shape in there and it will just make it look like stone automatically. msn-wink.gif

That should give you the same effect. These should all work with older versions of PS as well.

I'd quite like my Broken Arrows to have that fancy, official look, if one of you gents has the time and compulsion to make it so. happy.png

I'll have to give it a read through to make sure everything is as it should be, though. I'm sure there are still some lingering issues that need to be edited in there somewhere :P

I would need a better mock up of the Chapter Symbol than what I crudely drew in Photoshop, but it is nice and simple. :)

I've PMed you my email address. I can clean up your Chapter symbol in Illustrator as well (though we might have a bit of back and forth on that one to make sure you're happy with it), assuming it isn't too complex.

EDIT: Also, when it's done, I'd like to post it in this thread, just because we could do with another example of a completed IA.

Index Astartes: Broken Arrows.

Thanks for agreeing to be the first guinea pig! It should look better if you download it onto your machine, as opposed to Google's lowest-bidder viewer.

I'm not super happy with how the Chapter symbol came out on the slab, but I didn't want to change it too much since it's your symbol. Also the picture of the Marine is optimised for web viewing unfortunately, which means it comes out a bit grainy in the IA.

Hope you enjoy it though!

EDIT: Changed link to a shared Google Drive folder.

Do let me know when you feel this is complete enough for the downloads section and I'll see to it that it gets there. I'm sure the Halls of Artifice in general can benefit from it. Fantastic work, by the way, it looks great.

The watermark is a nice touch! I agree that the chapter symbol could use a little beefing up, but the proof of concept is great. I just read the Broken Arrows IA last week, and the format really does make it so much more polished and readable.

Now that Messor has offered, let's get that final level of polish on this and let it take on a life of its own. Maybe we can send a draft back and forth once or twice and make sure we're not missing anything? I think your copy has more in it right now so I'd love to take a look for starters. Do you use Dropbox at all? Maybe you can PM me and we can set up a shared folder. I'm sure my InDesign will allow me to edit an older file, but not vice versa.

Yeah, your version should be able to use mine. If you save it in .idml (if CC still has that option?) I can open and edit too, in theory. I don't have a Dropbox account, what do you need from me to set up a shared folder? In the meantime, the .indd I've got on my Google Drive (despite not being preview-able) is the template I used for the Broken Arrows.

I am, however, anticipating being pretty busy today and tomorrow, so probably won't be able to get anything done till the weekend comes around.

Will do! I'm sure JeffTibbetts and I will hammer something out soon.

Neat, thanks! :tu:

I didn't have a chance to edit or update it prior to this little experiment, so if you ever wanna give it another go - like when playing with the Chapter symbol, for instance - give me a heads up and I'll polish it prior to your polishing :D
