Architects of Heresy

OK so I need a side project like I need a hole in the head (cue family guy cut away gag) but I couldn't resist getting Erebus. Unfortunately he was missing his left arm thumb so while I was giving him a new one I thought I would add a few other little details.

was my first attempt at sculpting fire, fairly happy with it.

I didn't have any intentions to make any more but I think he needs some friends. Well disciples...

My Erebus was missing his left thumb as well...

weird. I told fw out of principle and they said they will get a new one for me.

@everyone: Thanks.

stuck him on my spraying device (a old bottle with blue tac), wondered down to the garage, he survived the blustering winds, only to fall off the second before i started to spray :|

I don't know whether to laugh or give you my deepest sympathies... I can just imagine the air turning blue from the effing and blinding.

Sorry to hear about the accident, regardless. Did he survive? Was there much damage?

Really digging this so far, man. Erebus is a great sculpt, and the ever so minor additions only add more depth rather than detract from it.

My only recommendation is maybe veer away from how pale he is shown in the FW paint job. I think, given how early in the Heresy this is supposed to be, his skin should still be of a more natural skin tone. That's just my two cents though.

Makes sense to me. To be fair, I think that's always been my issue with those two models. I know they look evil and all... But this just seems so blatantly like a dark sorcerer kind of stereotypical evil. The point of the current Word Bearers stuff is that they aren't supposed to look super chaosy. Even Erebus' armour reflects that, so why does his face look like what it probably will in 10 thousand years?

But he gets horns though...

When you mess with the bull Chaos, you get the horns

The cynic in me would say FW want to sell to the warhammer 40k crowd.

anyway slightly warmer face. L9oks less like a vampire, kind of looks odd though. Possibly the left eye effecting the balance which needs to be sorted out.

Ive fixed it, rehighlighted the eyebrow so the left eye doesnt look higher, and removed some of the blue shading. Ive also redone the iris to make it look more central with the right eye. I will see how it looks tomorrow morning and hopefully get a decent shot in whatever light Surrey is bathed in tomorrow.
Well since Arabic skintones are classified as Causcasian, it would mean that if you gave Erebus "Arabic" skintones, you could have as white as Natalie Portman(who is Israeli) to as dark as Faran Tahir(who is from California) or Alexander Siddig(who was born in Sudan). And normally, being from a desert region might normally mean being tan, even if you are pale. But Astartes also have that fangled organ that changes skin tones according to the atmosphere and such. So really, he can be as dark or as light as you want him to be.

I have looked at it in the morning light and i dont like the face. It doesnt look like skin. So i think I will strip off the paint and start again.

i think where i have gone wrong is starting with a pale tone and tried to add warmth (used to painting Raven Guard!). Im thinking i should start warmer, like with the Iron Warrior i painted, and then go lighter.

i get what people are saying about an Arabic skin tone, however, even early heresy, i think the Warp will be effecting him. Also he is a scholar, he will be sitting in his sanctuary reading.

the thing with middle eastern/ mediterranean skin is thatvit can be quite pale. My wife is Spanish but 15 odd years of England has left her paler then her cousins, and i have met some stunning Saudi ladies with very pale skin. Now women do tend to have different skin from men and there's also make up that pales skin, there is room for a paler middle eastern tone.

if/when i paint Logar, though, he will have golden skin like a pharaoh. Same with Argal Tal.
