Sure can! It's a "Dreadnought", same as a Casta-Ferrus same as a Contemptor!

Still though, I guess at 4.5k you could maybe do it. PAIN TRAIN CHOO CHOO.

No, the Mastodon specifically calls out to Contemptors and Basic Legion Dreads.

Does the alternative force organisation that gives you two Lord of War ignore the LoW % rules?

If so, in 3k put Ferrus in a Mastodon with a Leviathan and terms. I call it the PAIN TRAIN

"Onslaught" allows you to take 2 Lords of War, each of which must abide by the 25% rule (not combined). So, in a 3000 point army, you could have Ferrus in one slot and a Mastodon in the other slot, as neither is over 750 points! :)

Trying out an a list for a potential tournament application today, and I want to field test leviathans and see how it goes:

RoW: Pride of the Legion

HQ

Autek Mor

Cyber Familiar

Troops

6 Gorgon Terminators

2 Chainfists

Spartan

Armoured Ceramite, Flare Shield, Dozer Blade

10 Legion Veterans

2 Plasma Guns, 1 Power Axe, Melta bombs

Rhino

10 Legion Veterans
2 Plasma Guns, 1 Power Axe, Melta bombs
Rhino

Fast Attack

Xiphon

Armoured Cockpit, Ground Tracking

Elites

3 Quad Mortars

Heavy Support

Leviathan Dreadnought

2 Storm Cannons

Phosphex Discharger, Volkite Calivers, Armoured Ceramite

Leviathan Dreadnoght

2 Grav Flux bombards

Phosphex Discharger, Volkite Calivers, Armoured Ceramite

Lord of War

Stormblade

Armoured Ceramite, Space Marine Crew

The leviathans seem odd without a pod and short ranged weapons, but their main goal is to flank the Stormblade and peel pressure and deter any assault approach to dealing with it. I always field lots of armour wit my Iron Hands, and the more I look at these guys the more I realize they can plug some gaps in our tank spread. They have brutal short ranged fire power and can keep the enemy at bay, where our superior armour will win the attrition.

The mounted vets and Gorgons give me lots of mobility on the map for objective grabs. Quad Mortars are for any infantry blobs and hull point stripping.

Cool stuff! Wall of AV should keep the littler ones safe.

Why the Stormblade? Rule of cool it's awesome an a big ol' Plasma template or two is always welcome. Does it ignore cover at all?

Points for the Fluffy Xiphon :D

Min maxing is something I can do, but choose not to. The rule of cool brought me to the heresy, and playing a cohesive force is good enough for me. It has functionality, thus it works, and that's fine with me. Doesn't mean I can't tweak it and take suggestions for feedback.

Stormblade is suprisingly cheap (455 base) and still sports 9 hull points. It doesn't ignore cover, but it's got range the typhon doesn't sport and it coves a large area, making it a good choice against tank squadrons/parking lots. it's a good workhorse overall for me and I want to find out if he is going to be my low point generalist pick. The Cerberus is my specialist pick at 3k or less, and above that I just field Little Timmy (warhound).

The other contenders for the slot are the Typhon and Falchion. Ignoring cover and S:D are also features that are not to be ignored.

The Stormblade is a great fluffy choice, book two says the Iron Hands have a large surplus of them, it's a shame they don't give the option in the plastic kit as I really want one.

I am going to get a Warhound titan plasma arm and mount it on. I am using a plastic baneblade for this game ;)

Y'know what would be really fluff? An Armoured Company of two Stormblades flanking a Glaive

So... game Highlight!

I took the advice and when with a snippy claw on each dread. They are a must. They do lots of work with them. Tanky even beyond my expectations.

Stormblade: Powerful. Those pie plates get work done. They force your opponent to spread on deployment or risk having all his transport on one flank tanking S10 hits with lots of dice to pen. At 455 it's a solid pick.

Mortarion came to play. 1000sons told me this when the game started: I was there at Isstvan, and saw the fall of Ferrus. Death cometh!

Morty ended up getting wounded badly in a challenge with Autek Mor. Autek Mor goes first, hits 3 times, wounds once. Invulnerable on Morty. He swigs back, lands with 4, wounds with 4 instant death hits. Autek bounces all 4 wounds with invulnerable saves. At that point, I figure I win, he has one wound let. My whole squad swings and generates 4 wounds. He makes all 4 against is own disbelief.

Then I remember the servo arm on Autek. Swing. Hit. Wound. Fails!

Autek Mor replied at the end od the game, to his corps: And I have repaid you in kind!
